Tell me about living in Rockville

I'm the PP and wanted to add that we go to DC pretty frequently -- the drive is not bad (another thing I was worried about) and it doesn't take long via metro either.

I have to drive to Montgomery college in Rockville and I agree!

All three area airports are less than an hour from Rockville.

Anything near downtown rockville near metro fine.

Schools. Richard Montgomery HS great, Wootton as well

Not Rockville HS. Nothing near Norbeck road. Not Gaithersburg HS either.

Yes, there are a ton of Catholics but also very diverse area. And yes the Catholics are MAGA so beware of that. More so on the other side of 270.

Rockville HS is actually a great option. Barnsley and Flower Valley elementary school areas have some very family-friendly neighborhoods and can be more affordable than inside the Rockville city limits.

Convenient to 270 and the red line. The Catholic comment was surprising. I am not Catholic and have not noticed any Catholic feel. It is very diverse so nothing stands out.

This is about Kensington not Rockville.

What parts do you think do not apply to Rockville?

It is definitely too far out for those of us that are more DC oriented in our jobs or activities. We live in DC and would never consider Rockville. Kensington is as far as we would go.

You do realize you will go to DC less and less. I live by Rockville and go to DC maybe twice a year tops. I WFH now and all my kids stuff is here.

To each his own I grew up in Rockville and went to DC weekly.

I live farther out now but still go to DC, my kids and I did the zoo practically weekly. (My kids love animals)

But we also loved the amenities in the burbs like parks, pools, and free parking.

dp.. trust me, your kids will outgrow the zoo in no time.

uh.. I live on the west side of 270 in Rockville, and there aren't many MAGA, catholics or not. What are you smoking. And I'm not a progressive liberal, either.

Plug in Rockville, MD and you will see Biden won by a huge margin in Rockville. PP is smoking some strong stuff there.

Once your kids are older, they won't want to go to the zoo often. Seriously. They'll start doing organized sports and would rather hang out with friends. Plenty of things for them to do in the suburbs and certainly tons of facilities and recreational sports activities.

Why? Too diverse for you, huh?

Hey OP - I think the sweet spot is a generous walking distance to the town center and to the high school. In which case you’re probably also walking distance to Bayard Rustin or Beall ES. If your kids are walking to school, they will find other kids and you will probably meet parents. Alternatively, the Woodley Gardens neighborhood is walking distance to Carmen’s, which gives your future teenagers somewhere to walk to.

Woodley Gardens kids go to Beall ES now. They were moved when Rustin opened

White family in the Rockville cluster who loves it! Very happy with the schools, all levels. And it's a great neighborhood. Wonderful pool community in the summer (manor woods or flower valley pools).

Every time I see the Rockville sign on the beltway, it reminds me of the REM song - Don't Go Back to Rockville.
