Stupid typical American response. Nothing wrong with giving the kids money if they save enough money to match it, like a 401K with 100% matching. That gives them the incentive to save faster, and get the money to buy their own place. We call that financial freedom. |
Totally disagree. Your kid hasn’t earned it themselves. You’ve basically bought their house for them. Pathetic! |
What? they saved 250K themselves in order to get the 250K in matching fund. How is that not earned it themselves? |
Most families aren’t able to match. What can your child buy with 250K themselves? Let them save more and figure it out. |
I don’t see how you don’t understand this. Someone reviving 250k has not earned Jack sh*t. This is the definition of spoiled. |
You’ve painted a way too rosy picture there of Indian-American families. Lots of guilt, manipulation, control, narcissism, . . . could go on and on. In your mind, your adult children have done what they should do, go to college, get a STEM degree, perhaps a masters after, depending on if they are male or female, find a “suitable spouse” of equal status, settle down and marry and buy their first townhome, preferably near their parents so they can visit you every weekend. (Coming from Indian American that moved out of family home after college). |
Saving 250K on their own in a few years from a high paying job is not "earning" to you? Do you know how 401K matching works? |
