This is horrifying. What is wrong with people?! I’m sorry you experienced that. |
| pp here. I had to get supplemental oxygen during labor (pre COVID) bc I was having trouble breathing. can't imagine if I'd been wearing a mask. |
| i delivered wearing a mask in feb. it was really no big deal. |
Horrible The medical staff should have been wearing full PPE and should not have had you mask during surgery |
I wore an n95 for majority of my 18 hour labor in Sept 22. I didn't want to risk my newborn getting covid. |
| Labored entirely wearing an n 95 in Feb 2021. Not risking my baby getting a disease we know nothing about. Ask any teacher you know the kids are not ok…. And here I most notably mean the kids who’ve had Covid, not the impact of school closure. |
| For those saying they wore masks (especially N95!)and saying it was no problem, did you have pain relief/epidural? I did not and cannot imagine going through transition or pushing with a mask. Wondering if maybe with an epidural it's different. Thankfully in May 2020 I did not have to at my hospital. |
Your baby/child will be catching covid. There is no avoiding it. |
Just delivered without an epidural at Shady Grove. Was too far gone to get a mask on and thankfully nobody pushed it. We were maskless in the recovery room but DH wore one during delivery and outside of our room. |
| Giving birth without an epidural is a completely different experience. Saying that it is no big deal to wear a mask is a little odd if you were basically pain free the whole time... I've done both ways and sure, with an epidural everything is great. But judging someone for not being able to wear a mask if they don't want (or can't get) an epidural is obnoxious. I really hope hospitals are doing away with these crazy policies. |
I had an epidural. At 16 hours into labor while struggling to push the nurses basically made me take my mask off and had alone time for 30 minutes, after that I switched from n95 to kn95. But I'm extremely covid cautious- brought an air purifier with us too. Our postpartum nurse constantly had mask below her nose |
Avoided it so far! Thanks though! |
|
I gave birth Feb 2021 in CA where they were really strict about covid protocols and masking but didn’t have to wear a mask while in labor.
No way hospitals are doing this now…right? |
That went over your head. Covid has only been around 2.5-3 years. |
Maybe. But they don’t need to “catch’ COVID as newborns, when infections and viruses are most dangerous. |
