Selling heavy bedroom set

My cousin actually sold her bedroom set. I don't think she recouped much, but someone came, picked it up, saved it from the landfill, and she even got some money back. Lots of newer furniture is just pure crap, so there are bargain hunters looking for quality stuff.

FWIW, when I bought my first apartment, I bought a used bedroom set - teak, MCM. People were getting rid of old and outdated stuff left and right in favor of the modern formica styles. I still have that set.

This is what I mean, it’s solid wood of very good quality. Classic sleighbed.

Right. We have established this is solid wood. It is also very large, and very heavy. It will not fit in a starter home, which is what second-hand furniture buyers are buying. If you don't want it, why should someone else?

There are people who chalk paint outdated wood furniture. Maybe contact a seller on CL and see if they will take it for free?

If you aren't willing to give it away, know that Buy Nothing and similar groups have solid wood listings frequently, if not daily. Hang on to yours if you want, but people who are interested in used furniture are finding nice sets for free all the time. In fact, it's seen as a favor to the person offering it, because the person getting it is hauling it away.

Do you need the money?

OP list it for 100% of the purchase price, because of inflation they will be getting a really good deal and that should cover the cost of moving it for them. List it on Facebook a marketplace.

Nobody wants a sleigh bed. Or the mirror. The rest you can sell on Facebook marketplace place for $50 each piece. This are depreciating items. You are not going to recoup your cost. Not even close.

No one wants a massive chalk painted sleigh bed. Ick.

OP, I'd swap out the bed and see if you want make a couple of the other pieces work. The bed is the most dated part and the look now is for collected furniture rather than a set.

I agree, that might be enough.

OP, since you seem determined not to believe most of the replies, go ahead and try to sell it. At least you won't be surprised when you don't get much/ anything for it!

I just gave away a very nice bed, 2 nightstands and a dresser a couple of weeks ago, and I felt fortunate I found someone to take it off my hands and haul it away!

List if for FREE on FB Marketplace with the stipulation that they must take it apart and move it out of the house if they want it.

Noone wants it. Even donation places may not as a sleigh bed is hard to fit into an apartment.

How much are you selling it for?

+1 Also, OP, it's sad to me but honestly there are beautiful mahogany and walnut antiques selling for very little. So many people today just want a Wayfair, etc HGTV look.

That stuff is garbage quality. How many years will it take for the real wood stuff to come back in style?
