Takoma Park near the metro

How would they do that for less than $800K?

+1. It’s a unicorn in the DMV. Schools are good, close-by and most things are walkable.

Piney Branch Elementary School and Takoma Park Middle School seem decent, but Montgomery Blair High School is 4/10? Can anybody share some insights about those schools

zoned for B-CC. Lots of similar good options in arlington and fairfax.

Also at 900, there may even be parts of the palisades in budget, though that has airplane noise.

I would not call the Palisades walkable and I don't think you can get a 3br in op's budget anyway. Maybe look in north Bethesda for something in bounds for Walter Johnson near Grosvenor or white flint. It won't be super close to the MS and HS but there are buses and lots of other stuff close by. You can get a townhouse, or maybe a house in Garrett park.

GreatSchools rankings are dumb.

Little bit out of date but teachers that responded to a survey in 2018-2019 seemed quite satisfied with Blair relative to the rest of the county. Parents' satisfaction was generally average. In both parents and teachers at Blair were happier than parents and teachers at BCC high school. https://sharedaccountability.mcpsmd.org/SurveyResults/content.php?sch=757
