Good schools/walkability

Where in the DMV would you recommend living if your priority is walkability/bikeability (say to school, maybe a few shops, a library) and a good middle/high school? Hoping to spend less than $800K for a 3 BR. Proximity to DC not necessarily a priority.

Burke would fit your budget.

Silver Spring, maybe.

If you do not need to be near DV why not move out to Loudoun?
On the Burke suggestion - Burke Centre is heavily bikable to 2 libraries and to a few strip mall spots for groceries / Starbucks/ fast causal and a couple causal sit down type spots. No chic “date night” spots though not cute coffee shops. Walkable you those areas depends on what part of Burke you are on but the Burke Centre trail network is great for connecting you.

Downtown Silver Spring is tough under $800k.

I am biased but the Kensington Heights/North Kensington areas are underrated by many on these boards. Walkable to the shops in Kensington and/or downtown Wheaton. Plenty of houses within your budget that would be walkable to the elementary schools (Rock View or Oakland Terrace). Libraries may be tougher depending on where you are/how far you are willing to walk, but if not walkable very quick drive to some great ones.

market seems to softening a bit, but 800K is going to still cut it pretty close

A condo in upper northwest if you can handle the fees

OP here - we could probably stretch for 900 if that makes it easier; mostly seeing what options are at this point.
