Why thank god? Because I want to actually meet my kids' teachers and see the other parents. I want to interact with human beings in-person, at least for things that are important to me, as this is. Virtual just means more tech issues, more people with their cameras off, or someone screaming in the background, or being distracted because it's dinner/bath/bedtime and parents can't do multiple things at once. Videoconferencing is useful for many things. Group gatherings is, IMO, not one of them. Virtual BTSN is an utter waste of time. |
Agree. Virtual BTSN was useless for my MS kid last year. BTSN is not something that can be done well virtually. |
In-person BTSN is a waste of time for everyone involved. Period. Sorry you need to see the faces of other kids parents to feel comfortable? Sounds like a personal problem. |
| It would be nice if BTSN had 2 parts: prerecorded videos and in-person walk though meet and greet. |
You seem to lack any empathy, let alone theory of mind, and you're criticizing my personal functioning? Typical. |
Aww, but I do. I feel sorry for people like you. |
That is exactly what MCPS does. We have been to lots of BTSNs. It is exactly that. Pre-recorded video and then go visit the kids classes. They can broadcast the pre-recorded videos for those who want to be Virtual and keep the meet and greet. Sounds like an excellent compromise. |
I am coming to the conclusion that the people who want In person BTSN have elementary kids. With the exception of that 1 poster, does any MS and definitely any HS parent want in person? |
I know plenty of parents of older kids who want in-person education, mostly the ones who know how fundamental independence and peer relationships are to their kids' healthy development. No, virtual doesn't count. |
I have elementary and high school and I want virtual for both. Fighting for parking or sit at home and do the same exact thing virtually? The teachers do a great job of photographing the classroom if you’re so concerned about that (seems absurd to me). |
We’re talking about back to school night…. Read then post. |
My kids are in ES and I'd prefer virtual, provided the classroom teacher is there live and answering questions live. BTSN tends to be in and out, so crowded, at our ES the principal is pretty standoffish and parents keep to themselves, and there's the question of who will watch the kids. I know a couple families bring their kids, but imo the kids already spent most of the day in the classroom, they don't need to go through the hassle of going back. |
I have ES and HS and I want in-person. What HS teacher ‘photographs the classroom’? |
They have BTSN presentations… they take pics of the classroom (sans kids) are you new here or just willfully obtuse? |
Why do you need to see 7/8 high school classrooms? What do you do 2nd semester when they change schedules and you can’t see those classrooms? |
