Where do you buy your salmon?

I actually hate the Trader Joe’s one and don’t think it is very fresh. It always smells very fishy and stinks up kitchen. To me that is sign of fish past its prime. Costco wild salmon (the big thawed fresh filets) don’t have this issue, but they are seasonal

I love Aldi’s salmon. In fact, we are having it tonight. For the price and flavor, it’s the best value around!

We eat this every single week. I’ve had salmon that cost far more that wasn’t half as good. I don’t know how they are producing such good salmon for that price, but you can’t beat it for a weeknight dinner.

It’s cheap because it’s farmed Atlantic salmon from Chile. One of the worst salmon choices from an environmental perspective, very unsustainable farming practices and receives the worst Seafood Watch rating (red / “avoid”). You can things really inexpensively if you don’t have to worry about environmental impact.

Do all Costcos still carry the wild caught salmon? This is where I always used to buy it but the last few times DH has done the Costco runs and he claims it isn't there. Maybe they moved it or changed the packaging and he just couldn't find it but I had taken his word and wondered if they no longer carried it....we go to the Wheaton one FWIW.

I buy frozen salmon from WF. You can ask them for frozen fillets from the back.

There’s no such thing as “fresh” salmon. It’s just thawed for you.

Pescadeli in Bethesda has excellent selections of fish. Including the King Salmon, which is outstanding, from New Zealand.

Yessssss to O'Donnell's and their salmon. I personally don't like the rum buns but I know many people who do. I do like their key lime pie!

King salmon has the highest mercury content of all types of salmon.


Cold Country Salmon is where we get our fish. They go to farmers' markets but will deliver if you buy a share. I especially like the rockfish.

It is seasonal. Sometimes they have it, sometimes they don’t. But I believe August is high season

Yes looks great!
I normally buy ours flash frozen/wild from Whole Foods but I like this idea.
