If edgier is what they want, then an airbnb in trendy Highland Park or Silverlake, or a hotel like Citizen M downtown or The Line in Koreatown. All far more interesting than North Hollywood.

OP disn’t ask for edgy, they asked for central. A number of poster recommended BH and I was offering North Hollywood as another place to consider, it is more residential feeling (aka “safer”) than West Hollywood but of course not as sheltered as BH, is what I meant.

North Hollywood is a pit and in the valley! Jesus, no! And in no way safer than West Hollywood.

The attraction for locals and tourists alike is really the adjacent LA Farmers Market, not the Grove. Parking is sometimes easier in the adjacent Grove parking lot. But when there are spaces the outdoor LA Farmers Market lot is easier and free with validation. If the LA Farmers Market is still too touristy then try the Grand Central Market Downtown. It’s kind of like Union Market in DC but with more history and flavor.

The Grove itself is really just a fancy faux town with upscale shops and cafes, a dancing fountain, and Disney style trolley.

+1. My teens loved staying near the Grove and La Farmers Market. It was also centrally located to go to la brea tarpits, the walk of fame, and other LA tourist sites. We stayed at the Farmers Daughter/Short Stories hotel right across from LA Farmers Market. It is a 3 star and rooms are small, but it is fine if you are just doing a short trip.

Hi OP. I'm the PP with a DD at UCLA who posted that West Hollywood is very hip with the young folks. I posed this question to my DD, and she said for sure West Hollywood or Beverly Hills.

And for the record, I LOVE the LA Farmers Market! DD likes shopping at the Grove because she LOVES Alo.

Culver City! Not much in the immediate vicinity but cute enough and central to everything. 15 minutes to almost everything. And not seedy at all, it's very residential.

By the way, Hollywood is seedy, but West Hollywood isn't.

Yes, this. All the hottest restaurants, nightclubs and boutiques are in weho. Check out Melrose avenue for shopping and west 3rd street.

I wouldn't go by what a UCLA undergrad thinks.

DP, But if OP is looking for what her teenagers might enjoy, why wouldn't you listen to a UCLA undergrad?

No because a UCLA undergrad is older with a different frame of reference for what they want to do and where they will feel safe.

I'd stay in Beverly Hills or Westwood
