I never understand why people recommend The Grove as a destination. It’s an outdoor mall.
The attraction for locals and tourists alike is really the adjacent LA Farmers Market, not the Grove. Parking is sometimes easier in the adjacent Grove parking lot. But when there are spaces the outdoor LA Farmers Market lot is easier and free with validation. If the LA Farmers Market is still too touristy then try the Grand Central Market Downtown. It’s kind of like Union Market in DC but with more history and flavor. The Grove itself is really just a fancy faux town with upscale shops and cafes, a dancing fountain, and Disney style trolley.
+1. My teens loved staying near the Grove and La Farmers Market. It was also centrally located to go to la brea tarpits, the walk of fame, and other LA tourist sites. We stayed at the Farmers Daughter/Short Stories hotel right across from LA Farmers Market. It is a 3 star and rooms are small, but it is fine if you are just doing a short trip.
this is OP. that is great to hear. short stories is in west LA, though! I am getting a lot of conflicting advice in this thread, haha.
Hi OP. I'm the PP with a DD at UCLA who posted that West Hollywood is very hip with the young folks. I posed this question to my DD, and she said for sure West Hollywood or Beverly Hills. And for the record, I LOVE the LA Farmers Market! DD likes shopping at the Grove because she LOVES Alo.
