Coffee Drinkers, Come in: K-Cups or Ground?

Anonymous
I got a moccamaster and now only get coffee out when I’m traveling. My coffee at home is just that much better. And by now I’ve more than made up the cost in what I used to spend on a “treat” coffee

Copper Cow coffee pour over! I put some cardamom, ginger, and cinnamon in the grounds and it is so good. No sugar or anything else needed. I save the creamer packets for my Nescafe instant light roast.

Yep I have a Moccamaster too with a Capresso grinder. Our coffee is heaven. We grind fresh every day or two.

Environmental problem with K cups.

Relative to the typical cold drink plastic cup from Starbucks, they produce far less waste. I don't know if Starbucks is letting you use reusable cups again.

I use a kettle and a pour over cone with a paper filter. Other than the bag coffee came in, it’s all compostable.

This person is correct. K-cups do not make good coffee. I used pour over for years, but now my family finishes a whole pot of coffee between 3 coffee drinkers, so we use a coffee maker, but we still have our pour over for times when only a single cup is needed.

I just got one and was skeptical, but they actually live up to the hype

Okay, I’m about to sound like a snobby weird wine person…. K cups don’t have the same deep mouthfeel that ground coffee does. It is missing the oils or something. I would never consider k cups a substitute for ground coffee. But if you don’t drink it black anyway, you might not notice this.

Thank you all! I promptly removed the kpods from my cart. I've never had k-pod coffee but have always been curious but too stuck in my ways to try. Now, I am baffled with why they are everywhere when it seems no one likes the taste.

Because they are convenient.

And while people complain about the waste, that little plastic cup is not more wasteful than the paper takeout cup that was going to end up in the trash (you bring your own cup or compost the paper one? Great, but most people don't)

We don't have a Keurig, but it's because of taste, not waste

I used K-Cups for years....mainly because i was the only coffee drinker in the house. When my husband started drinking coffee in the AM, we started freshly grinding and brewing a pot every morning. Holy cow, what a difference! Better taste, feels like I get more caffeine and gets things moving (TMI but IYKYK).

We still use kcups but a lot less often.

No one was saying get disposable cups instead! We were all saying do pour over at home into a mug.
