| Probably has its roots in anti-semitism. Rootless cosmopolitan elitists and all of that. |
Do you always follow rules others set up for you that they exempt themselves from? You don’t question it? |
That's quite a straw man you built there. Nice work. |
Yeah, must be embarrassing to be bested by a stupid MAGA person I mean who believes a man telling you that the seas are rising at an alarming rate so you have to change YOUR behavior, then buys TWO expensive beach front properties? Even Obama doesn't believe his own crap.

When it comes to health and safety, I follow rules that I know make sense and that are based on science and research. I don't follow or ignore them based on whether the people who write them or pass them into law follow them. Why would I? What a ridiculous thing. |
Some of us have a conscience and follow it. No matter what others do. Again, you sound highly manipulable. You apparently base your decisions in opposition to what other people do, rather than on your own principles. |
The title of this thread speaks of expertise. The people who are stating they are experts and to follow their rules, again, don't follow the same rules themselves. A true expert would not behave that way. Another example - all the parties liberals in authority threw, with them unmasked but the help, masked. |
| There are a lot of delusional fools in the world. Demagogues and conmen know how to find them and wind them up. |
So I'm sure you are very sick and tired of all the "moral majority", "family values" GOP politicians who have been caught committing adultery or, much worse, who are pedophiles. Right? Or who vote against any assistance to the poor, for children etc.? Right? |

I’ve often wondered about the reason for this. I think part of the problem is a confusion about discerning between expertise and expressions of arrogance. So a scientist discussing climate change or Covid is not the same as a politician and MAGA doesn’t make the distinction. And let’s face it, there are a lot of arrogant jerks in government who come off as holier than thou.
Also, an inability to understand that what we understand in science is ever-evolving and therefore “changes” as people learn more. |
That's what makes it bizarre when the right wing tries to pretend science is somehow a religion. In science you get to learn new things, it's based on observation, testing and measuring, and it's continually evolving. But religion is based entirely on dogma and you cannot observe, test, measure or even question any of it. |
Anyone who thinks climate change is a hoax doesn't even have any business being on a thread about expertise. |
Are you talking about Boris Johnson, soon-to-be former Conservative Prime Minister of UK? |
| No it has nothing to do with that and everything to do with the "experts" being wrong on just about everything these days. |
