I came here to say this.

I also went to MBC(now MBU) before transferring. I love staunton! It’s so cute! My adopted town of Harrisonburg is surprisingly adorable and has a TON to offer! Cute local shops, great food, adorable parks- especially the incredible new natural childrens area at the arboretum. Staunton has more classic charm though.

Thanks, OP here. I should clarify that I said town but by all means, let’s discuss cities, too!

I love Portland, Oregon. I know it’s not perfect, but it is lovely and has many unique restaurants and shops. I love the big farmer’s market and the food stalls and woodworking stalls there. I love the boutique hotels there. I love the mountains and hot springs nearby. One of my best memories is totally unexpectedly deciding to partake in a nude dip in hot springs, and not-bad vegan burritos at the nearby resort main cabin.

You sound like someone o could be friends with. Another vote for Portland. Both of them.

great brewery, coffee shop, bookstore, kid activities, yoga, food coop, ice cream. And you get to meet the president.

Charlevoix, Michigan. It was unexpectedly charming with big, historic homes, lush gardens, beautiful beach, and just lovely all the way around. It came as a complete surprise to us when we were there for a day.

We stayed at "La Posada" hotel which was lovely!
It's within about a one hour drive of the painted desert/petrified forest national park.
There is "Standing on the corner" park https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standin%27_on_the_Corner_Park like n the Eagles song

Is that the "Portsmouth" mentioned in the children's book "Ox Cart Man?"

Portsmouth road-tripper here, and it looks like it is! I loved that book as a kid.
