I love Pittsburgh and recommend it on this forum ALL the time. A truly great city.

Sarasota has some true old Florida charm that I really love

Shepherdstown, WV

Carolina Beach, NC. Just unsnooty coastal Carolina vibes

Jackson Hole, WY and Cody too

Flagstaff AZ. Cute, vibrant city, historical architecture, nice shops and dining. Love the ponderosa pine/high desert climate. The only thing I didn’t like was driving around there at night. They have an observatory so really limit light pollution, but I have night vision issues as it is.

Not mine, but my husband raves about Traverse City MI. He had to go there for work and left in love with the town.

I came here to say this.

I went to Pittsburgh for work and was equally charmed. I had zero expectations and left thinking it was one of the nicest cities in the US

Tell me more about why!

(Am considering a remote role at Corning that will involve some travel to HQ)

I love that place! The shops and restaurants are charming. I saw a play there and it was great that there is a live theater venue. Foliage is beautiful.

to OP: Thanks for starting this positive thread! I feel like the "most depressing town" needed a counter.

Thanks, OP here. I should clarify that I said town but by all means, let’s discuss cities, too!

I love Portland, Oregon. I know it’s not perfect, but it is lovely and has many unique restaurants and shops. I love the big farmer’s market and the food stalls and woodworking stalls there. I love the boutique hotels there. I love the mountains and hot springs nearby. One of my best memories is totally unexpectedly deciding to partake in a nude dip in hot springs, and not-bad vegan burritos at the nearby resort main cabin.
