That kind of treatment by airlines should be ILLEGAL and punishable by a MASSIVE fine. I'd rather the cost of the ticket increase a little rather than have the anxiety of never knowing when a flight will be rescheduled.

I'm so sorry, OP.

Our European friends are appalled by what US airlines can get away with and how they can leave customers totally SOL.

Well tell your “European friends” that plenty of us have nightmare stories traveling there, on their airlines. We had a 3 hour delay out if Dulles on BA last week that caused a cascading line of problems with connecting flights. We finally arrived in Budapest at 2:00 am only to face an hour long plus wait at immigration because of course only one person was working at that hour despite the fact that hundreds of passengers were arriving on similarly delayed flights from across Europe

You haven’t seen your husband in almost a year and you are going to leave him after a few days to get away from your kids? I do not understand.

She needs a break!

OMG yes she needs a break. It sounds like she was going to stay for a short time and then leave, but the portion where she would stay is being eaten up by the flight issues.

Also I think it's good for the kids to have some alone time with their dad. Especially after not seeing him for so long.

OP - I hope your DH is flying them home! Good luck with the rest of your trip!

Our flight was canceled due to weather, we were told that the whole plane was rebooked for the 7am flight. Got here, no flight

If you have to be somewhere this summer, say a wedding on Saturday, DO NOT fly in on Friday. Give yourself at least one buffer day. And get trip insurance.

Anonymous wrote:These stories have me worried for my trip to Portugal next month! It is with United non-stop going and it's a tight schedule returning (there's a layover in Montreal). We get back to DC 3pm and I will drive 2 hours home that afternoon or SUPER EARLY the next day so that I can go to work. I'll have to mention it in advance that there is a chance my flight could be delayed and will try to not schedule meetings for that day.

I'm also worried about getting covid before/during our trip! We are taking extra steps to be cautious and careful these next few weeks.

Well, at least if the transatlantic return flight takes off on time, you should have options from Montreal for late flights. But why wouldn't you allow for an extra day before returning to work? Even under ideal travel conditions, there's still jet lag.

Ryanair. Enough said.

We sat in an airplane in Dublin (which, by the way, is a filthy airport) for two hours because they couldn't find the tow bar thing to push us away from the gate. Once they found it, we made it 50 yards before we had a mechanical issue and had to go back to the gate. We left four hours late, missed our connection in Chicago, had to stay overnight and then buy new tickets home.
In Europe though, they have this rule where if the flight is delayed 3/4 hours, you get compensation. I applied for that. I also had travel insurance for the hotel and new flights.

Husband missed a half day of work and we hate chicago but we made it home.

BA ground crew at Heathrow voted today to strike throughout the summer. Look it up.

+1000. It's B.S that airlines can just break a contract at will with no penalty.

Our return from Paris to DC last week ended up taking about 30 hours and involved two cancelled flights and an unexpected overnight at OHare. It was miserable.

I *think*, though, that because it wasn't a US airline, we'll actually get a few hundred bucks back per passenger in penalties to the airline. So that's something.

EU 261 applies to all airlines operating a flight to/from EU airports. You can get compensation from United or whoever in the same situation.

They voted to approve strike DAYS, not throughout the summer. Still would have an impact if resolution isn't reached. But they won't strike for 6 straight weeks.

"Strike dates will be confirmed in the coming days, but they are likely to be during the school holidays."

Wonder if it' going to get better or worse?

American cancelled all of their flights this morning from DCA to BOS. Arrived at 0500 for my flight--cancelled. All of them. Couldn't get on another airline, all booked. BWI-booked. IAD--booked. Next flight wasn't until 5 pm, so just came home.

THis just sucks.
