Are you the OP? You start a thread that’s a big racist dog whistle and then don’t like being called on it.

No that’s wasn’t my comment and intent. However, associating a cleaner and friendlier city thread is against one or the other race says a lot, every race wants and is capable of being nice and keeping it clean. It’s individuals who decide they don’t care, not whole races. For goodness sake, stop brining race into every thread. Just think of people as people.

There are so many musicians, florists and painters in the city, why don’t we see many working at tourist areas, stations and shopping area. Easy money and adds a festive flair.

How about we reduce gun violence. That would make DC much more "sanctuary-esque" for me.

Make brief eye contact and nod and smile or give some human acknowledgment, if you feel safe to do so.

Take the Metro or walk instead of drive when you feel safe to do so.

Financially support homeless shelters, animal shelters, soup kitchens, rehab centers and any other organization that does good work in your neighborhood or in DC.

In any situation where you can choose to be patient, kind or simply turn away from someone acting up, do so instead of confrontation if you feel safe to do so, unless it is racist or hate speech, in which case speak up if you can.

If you pass by people that become familiar faces, say hello and introduce yourself and learn their name. Greet them by name.

If you see something, say something.

This. I would also add: pick up litter and recycling and put it in the bin when you see it on the sidewalk/at the park/in the playground. (Since OP mentioned cleanliness as well. Fortunately, DC has many public trash cans so this isn't super onerous.)

I've seen DC kids throw wrappers on the floor literally 10 feet from a trash can. That is the height of clueless stupidity, laziness and disrespect. Yes, I yell at them for it. "Do you throw trash on the floor in your house and not get your ass beat for it?"

Or you could just be kind and patient and considerate, as initial PP suggested...

For all cyclists to obey traffic laws (especially stop signs).

I'm impressed that PP isn't worried about getting her ass beat by yelling at strangers on the street. Where do you live, PP? Woodley?

Why do you care so much about this? You always post the same nonsense attack on cycling. I have literally NEVER seen a rider fail to stop at a stop sign of red light. This literally never happens, except in your crazy world.

Go away troll.

Is there a way to dedicate one day a month to “Be a good neighbor day”. There can be cleaning, meet ups etc plan to improve neighborhoods. Any better suggestions to get people thinking and acting?

There is literally nothing stopping you from doing this on your own. But I guess what you are saying is that you don’t want to do it, you want other people to do it.

Whoa! Hit a sore spot. Troll? I’ve never posted on this subject just noticed a trend where cyclists expect people in cars to yield to them as they run stop signs in Chevy Chase. And I feels the same about cars. But yes, keep running those stop signs until your ass gets run over.

Why do you always lie about obvious things? Everyone has seen bicyclists blowing stop signs. Heck, the cyclists themselves are trying to make this practice legal. That's how widespread it is.

Is this thread purely applicable to mundane hippy-dippy issues? I'm noticing that posts about substantive issues are being deleted.

Yep, also meant to distract from the real issues. Hold your nose and vote Anthony Williams-endorsed Salah in Ward 1. Send the message!
