MCPS Conditional Teaching License

To the OP - this is just my experience but could hopefully provide the perspective of someone currently conditionally certified. Teaching while simultaneously learning how to be a teacher is HARD. MCPS will assign you a consulting teacher that has to evaluate you throughout the year and you have to meet with regularly. You will have certification coursework to complete. As a new teacher with zero experience it will take you longer to plan lessons, grade, etc. In total, it will consume most of your life. Knowing what to expect will hopefully help. Fingers crossed you get a position with a strong team of teachers - it makes a huge difference on helping you navigate the first year.

Consulting teachers will work with the admin to put more hours on your plate when you will already be pushing unpaid double overtime and it still won't be enough. Admin and CT will make sure they align with each other to frame your work as poor and unprofessional. Usually because you won't have any protection or support to handle and punish kids for the violence that will be occurring everyday. Good luck in this profession that ruins so many lives

This isn't true. Don't answer questions if you don't know the answer. This is a terrible career plan. They can start teaching sped right away, OP just work with HR they'll help.

Special education requires certain certifications. You cannot become a special education teacher with zero background.

Consulting teachers are a complete waste of time. They add a huge amount of work to an already stressed out first year teacher’s work load. I was just trying to jump through all the hoops with my CT. Did not learn anything useful from my CT

The large group of teachers MCPS hired to teach special ed from the Philippines says otherwise. MCPS gives you time WHILE teaching to get the needed certifications.

Unfortunately, you can.

So the CTs get promoted to admin when they prove themselves to not be able to help teachers that literally donated a lifetime of debt, to work double overtime in a profession that is notoriously violent, corrupt, and underfunded. We are pushed out of education because we couldn't teach juveniles who didnt want to learn to be replaced by people with no credentials who didn't want to study education.
