Parents of kids in Greek Life, who pays

For a kid on financial aid, Greek may not make financial sense, unless as posted above, the price to live in Greek housing is cheaper than regular dorms. (We pay for our kid, who chose a school where he has a substantial merit scholarship over another one nearly twice the cost, and we can afford regardless.)

If interested, students should check. At my DS’s frat, there is a significant discount for students on financial aid. Our DS paid his own social fees, we would pay for housing if he lived there.

We pay for tuition and housing. DC pay for dues (roughly about $600/semester).

I would pay my child NOT to join a sorority or fraternity.

"You have thought a lot about this."

I have!!! Every weekend when I head out to do my errands I'm confronted with dozens of clone outfit young women and it is more than a little disconcerting. My kids laugh and joke about it when they're with me.

Though it was cheaper to live in the house next year, my kid chose an off campus apartment. She wanted her own room and bathroom without having to share a room with up to three other girls. As much of a social butterfly she is, she also needs her space.

Your opinion is noted but why posting on this thread then? Not exactly helpful. I do not think we need the weekly Greek system argument again do we? Either your kid does it or they don’t, no need to judge anyone else.

It would have been me. My parents paid in-state tuition and I covered spending and extracurriculars.

I went through rush and then at the first sorority meeting they announced a new much higher fee, I never joined. F that. The funny thing was everyone thought I was in the sorority. Greek wasn’t a big deal at my large state school. One of the things I love about it. Parties and social life are all-inclusive there.

We pay dues and any other fees.

She used money she'd saved over the summer for her spring break trip.

Ah, we've found the blue-haired parent with the goth child who thinks they're so original and cool.

I’m would shut my kids down if I heard them mocking others. Not cool in my book. I want them to be open minded, and not judge a book by it’s cover, so to speak. They are free to think what they want, but there’s no value at sneering aloud.

But mommy is morally superior and teaching great values, that's usually how the bullying starts.

Wait. You're defending the act of wearing what you've been instructed to wear that day by the queen bee? You think this is something that does not deserve a serious WTF?
