+1. Why did you leave the private sector? Why did you take this job? It sounds like the problem is you, OP. There are certain agencies in the government that are very demanding. You should go there, because then you’ll find the self-starters. Otherwise, you need to realize that most others come to the fed gov for work life balance. |
With the salary cap Gs15 step 3 is equivalent to a GS 14 step 10. Every year I lose money and morale. I love public service and my agency but now I’m just trying to get to my 20 years or ideally 25 years. The government/ congress/ public thinks and treats me like a second class employee so yeah after a certain point you get what you pay for. By the time I hit 25 years GS 15 will cease to exist other than in paper. It’s a real problem. |
That's not quite accurate. Nowhere in the U.S. is a GS-15/3 equivalent to a GS-14/10 (yet, anyway). The only place where a GS-14/10 is capped is the San Francisco bay area, and even there GS-15 caps out at step 4, not step 3. GS-14/10 is slightly higher than GS-15/4 (not /3), but that has nothing to do with the salary cap—that's just the way the pay tables are built with overlap between grades. |
Op, in govt initiatives are not rewarded. everyone's gotta stay in your swim lane. |
