Are you worried about the end of reproductive rights?

I'm definitely nervous. I'm hoping any embryos created before a new law are grandfathered in.

Grandfathered into what law?

DC has extremely liberal abortion laws.

Sorry, you can’t make this about the boomers. Barrett and Kavanaugh are not boomers and directly responsible.

You should be.

High-level GOP people benefit from both of the latter.

Most are still very anti-Gay, though.

As a married lesbian with 4 kids, the thought of this terrifies me. I'm not old enough to remember how things were gays in the earlier years when you had to mostly be in the closet for your safety, but I am old enough to remember the fight for marriage equality.

I think it'll be both, specifically LGBTQ access to fertility treatments/adoptions and medical care in general, then marriage equality. Not saying IVF is illegal, it's just that you have to be in a "stable" relationship to have access to it. And then stable starts to mean married starts to mean heterosexual etc.

In my state, we have a pretty strong organizing coalition that includes both LGBTQ people and straight people who are using reproductive technology. We all worked on a bill to update and codify access to reproductive technology and parentage rights. I think that's the way to go, build the coalition of the willing and organize. And, yes, I'm scared.

Kavanaugh is the end of boomer generation, so yes, he is a boomer.

Are you not familiar with VA or it's governor? It's not a monolith. I could see the crazies swinging the state in another direction.

This article sums up my concerns: https://www.law.georgetown.edu/gender-journal/wp-content/uploads/sites/20/2022/04/Abortion-Trigger-Ban-Statutes-Impacts-on-Plan-B-Birth-Control-and-IVF-Treatments_N.-Patel.pdf

Thoughts? Concerns?

They’re not coming after anything. You will be fine.

The governor doesn’t make the laws.

This.

If you can be jailed for having a miscarriage, we are back to the stone age in terms of women's rights.

If you think forced birth, limited reproductive rights, and a religious ruling body making your civil rights choices sounds fun, let me introduce you to Iran. Compare 70s Iran to 90s Iran. Then come back and tell me it can't happen here with our Far Right Wing SCOTUS who doesn't believe in the Constitution (separation of church and state actually BEING IN THE DOCUMENT apparently isn't enough).

This is the yet another alarm for the end of our democracy we are all so proud of. Hope the tax cuts were worth it!

The governor doesn’t make the laws.
But he reflects the sentiments of voters and can influence state legislature.

We tried that. My husband had male factor infertility in our mid 20's.
