I would pay her for the duration of her quarnantine. Jeez. |
Because I wanted to know what was standard. Do you pay for months of sick leave? If you do that's very generous of you. I am asking for advice. JFC people on this board. FWIW she is back and was shocked when I told her we would be paying for all of the sick leave as she has only ever been give five sick days at jobs before. We ended up paying 10, no problem. In no post did I complain about this. |
Seriously, I want to work for some of these posters! Unlimited sick leave sounds amazing. |
Would you pay someone who was out for three months? That's a pretty privileged position to be in. |
Well magically people become sick for no reason, many mental health daya |
This is all true. As an advocate of unlimited sick leave (though not one of the rude previous posters) I would always advocate for people in a position of privilege to be generous with pay and benefits. Not everyone can swing all the same benefits so maybe “unlimited” isn’t realistic for some but in general household employers are in a position of relative privilege. Be the change you want to see in the world. At least operate generously and with compassion. OP sounds like a great employer so I have no rude remarks. |
For a wonderful nanny, I would pay for her to be out until she is not showing any more symptoms. If that is 3 weeks, so be it. I would do that for any contagious illness, btw. Not worth having the whole family sick for weeks because the nanny was recalled too soon. |
+1 it’s really not ridiculous to ask how other employers handle sick time. I don’t get unlimited sick time where I work and this would be highly uncommon. PPs are assuming malicious intent from a completely reasonable question. |
We actually paid our nanny the sick leave when she got COVID ; thought it was the right thing to do. She’s wonderful and she takes excellent care of our children. |
Some of these responders are being ridiculous. Not every employer has unlimited sick leave. Let people ask for advice without being an a-hole.
OP, I'm not an employer but my nanny contract states that if I get Covid, I'll get up to 2 weeks off with pay, then 50% for 2 more weeks off, if needed. So far, that hasn't had to be used yet as I haven't had it AFAIK but I think it's more than fair. Wish you and your nanny well! |
*Most* employers don’t have unlimited sick leave. The vast majority do not. |
We had a provision in our contract for this. She was paid two weeks of either she or anyone in our household was sick with Covid (this was before vaccines etc, but I don’t think it matters). If she’s a good nanny, you do what you can to make sure she has time to heal.0 |
If you do not provide your nanny with paid sick leave for covid, you are forcing her to either come to work still sick or do without her income. Unlike other jobs, the nanny is in your home interacting closely with your child(ren), you and your partner. We just went through the covid drill in our home and, let me tell you, omicron is very contagious and it will sweep through your household like fire. The last thing you want is to invite this into your home. |
However you have short term disability, long term disability, FMLA |
