If MCPS were to turn away applicants from PGCPS or other schools with lower Niche or USNews rankings, it would just lead to more vacancies not being filled, and more classes being led by substitutes, which by the way they also can't hire quickly enough. |
| And maybe good teachers in PGCPS want to join MCPS. |
Wait - how than there be any good staff there if their rankings don't meet your standards? |
| I am personally more concerned about Central Office staff who come from other school systems with a history of discrimination against students, particularly against students with disabilities. It’s not a track record to be proud of and it’s definitely not a standard that should be welcomed in MCPS. |
Care to give any examples? |
Dr. McKnight should want to hire people who have expertise in the area in which they'll be serving. When you surround yourself with people who have the right expertise, they make you look good. When you hire people because you think they'll be loyal to you, or at least not make trouble, you don't help yourself. I'm as concerned about the good people who are leaving for neighboring counties. Instead of saying 'don't let the door hit you on the way out' to people who aren't blindly loyal, she should be trying to retain the talented professionals we've got. |
DP. Oooh!! Oooh!! (raising hand) I know the answer to this one!!! This summer 97.6% of organizations currently under investigation by the Department of Education Office of Civil RIghts had lower open investigation rates than MCPS. Only 14 school districts out of approximately 13,800 public school districts in the United States had more open investigations than MCPS. There was a big thread about this over the summer. The MCPS trolls were trying to argue "it's normal for big school districts", "there wasn't enough funding to go around", "it's poverty driven", etc. If anyone tries to claim that - here's the data to tell them they're full of s***.

promoting from within would be smart and strategic |
DCUM complains when they do that, too. |
Or, hire from schools better than MCPS, or colleges that rank nationally (not just in North Carolina)? |
