APS Option School Lottery

I am not sure of the history here, but I think there was a lot of "omg it's a scandal!" when they held it privately. So now they do it publicly, but since all students are assigned a random number, it still is not quite "scandal" proof. Since numbers can be assigned with preference and/or switched around afterwards.

I agree it makes no sense, so I don't pay attention to it AT ALL. I also think it's mostly people who are vying to get into HB that dream up all the conspiracy theories.

Wait, I don’t know my number before hand? I’ve never checked but I assumed if I watched the whole thing I would know if I got in or not. Of course people can “come off waitlist” or what not.

We have applied with 3 kids for a bunch of lotteries and got nada for 15 years.

Does anyone know how much movement the Spanish Dominant group makes. There are only 3 students that didn't get in and sadly we are one of them. It is unfortunate that APS only has one option for dual language and decided to decrease the number of students.

Hmm do they do anything to verify Spanish dominance?

My previous question about movement on the Spanish dominant lottery was in regards to Kindergarten by the way. We had to go to Syphax to get language testing which is required of all students who speak any language other than English.

Anyone not get results for MPSA? We applied to MPSA and ATS for K and only got results for ATS (WL). The MPSA app on SchoolMint still says "Submitted."

I think it normally moves at least a few slots…

Depends. Kindergarten? You have a good chance of getting in. The waitlist will shift by a significant amount with the acceptance deadline. For frame of reference my daughter was waitlisted at number 23 for ATS. After the acceptance deadline, she became number 8. She got off the waitlist in July. Not sure amount Claremont but I think the waitlist moves quicker than ATS. Best of luck!

Are people already seeing movement on the waitlists or should I not expect to see any changes until May 16th?

I have not see any movement...

I just accepted at a school and had applied to all option schools, so you should see some movement.

Do people get offered spots at more than 1 option school? I am used to DCPS who has a very systematic process where you only get offered at your highest choice.

Most people don’t but you could. However, once you accept your spot at a school, you are declining any other acceptances and drop off any other waitlists. There will be a lot more movement at the deadline for accepting initial offers. After that, if you come off the waitlist somewhere, you have a shorter amount of time to decide.

Oh no!!! I’m so sorry to hear this. We are a Spanish dominant family and have been told over and over again that the chances would be very high so it’s disappointing to hear this
