APS Option School Lottery

Hi, anyone have any insights into the number of K applicants for Claremont/Key this year?

I think you will know very soon. Results are tomorrow.

Sorry, Friday - I'm trying to hurry the week along.

Why did APS stage the lottery selection on Teams last week??? As a new APS parent, I assumed we'd actually get to see the results, not just an awkward video of people pushing buttons on a screen. It was just baffling.

The lottery always happens a week before the send out the results. It's a blind lottery so you don't see the results as they happen and wouldn't make sense to you if they did.

The video is just someone clicking the random sort button.

Why is it recorded and shared? It makes no sense and they didn’t even explain their process. I was searching my
Email for my kid’s “number.”

I guess new APS parents are just supposed to know how everything works! Lol

I think it’s just for “transparency” purposes to show that no one is tampering with the actual lottery selection. They note that the results are separate.

It’s not transparent because only numbers were selected. The assigning of numbers leaves room for error or manipulation. I’m not accusing APS of rigging the lottery, but the process is stupid.

No but it says on the website that you don't get results the day of the lottery and that families will get their child's acceptance or waitlist number on Friday the 29. It was our first time last year and it wasn't confusing.

Should we expect results around a certain time today?

I wanted to ask the same thing. The last time I did this, the results dropped in early afternoon. I assume it will be late enough that the registration office and sprint out of the door and avoid phone calls.

So how does this work again? Is there a separate lottery for Spanish dominant? I am wondering about entering in 1st or second grade as Spanish dominant. Is that a lottery as well?

You can enter the immersion program via lottery as a 1st grader but after that, there is a separate process to test Spanish language ability. Generally speaking though, there are basically separate pools of Spanish-dominant and English-dominant students to attempt to achieve 50/50 balance between kids who speak each language at home.

It's easier overall to get into the program if you have Spanish-language dominance/fluency already.
