Elon Musk officially buys Twitter

They weren’t forced to sell it.

They weren’t forced to sell it.

If the offer is high enough they sort of are. They get sued by shareholders for breaching their fiduciary duty if they don’t.

That you, Vlad?

PP. Oh, I didn't vote for Trump, just kept tabs on him through his tweets. And no, I don't think he should have been banned.

He is using public platform to spread toxic lies and propaganda. If you think there should be no regulation, you’re a fool.

And who's to decide what's toxic?
Have you ever seen Facebook. Is Facebook not toxic?

Easy.

Republican views are toxic. Democrat views are not.

Great. now Elon is going to end the regulation that kept out the republicans and let them spread their toxic views, publicly.

He is a horrible person!

The election “steal” isn’t a view, it’s lies and should not have a platform. The same way defense of naziism, for example, or anti-semitism or racism, for other examples, should not have a platform. If those are now the de facto views of the GOP then no, they should not have a platform. If their views are simply idiotic stances of matters open to interpretation like “anti masking is freedom,” that’s one thing but spreading lies is quite another. That the GOP has a home for both is their own nonsense.

Today is a dark, dark day thanks to Elon.

He is going to let people say whatever they want to say on Twitter now!

don't read it. make it even more irrelevant

This topic also on political forum

I don’t care if Musk makes his public company private but I do care that Twitter reigns in all the outrageous political lies on there before. They only recently got their act more together.

I don’t trust brilliant but megalomaniac Musk to establish adequate safe guards for Twitter. Truth absolutely matters if free speech is supposed to serve higher socio-political goods.

Free speech is the opposite of the bedrock of a functioning democracy when popular social media platforms act as unfettered megaphones for populist politicians not held accountable for telling the truth/ advocating race and ethnic based violence/ science misinformation/ hate speech.

They pretty much were. It would have been a hostile takeover had they not agreed.

So a single party system is a solution for you.
No further questions.

You are intimidated and trying to shut others up.

Trying to shut others up on anonymous forum? What use is that? Just stating it like it is.

I generally despise Twitter but I'm happy about this- took a small gamble and bought some after he announced his intention to purchase and now I'm up enough to have several nice meals, even more if the deal closes. Thanks, Elon!

I can’t stand this! Now people will be free to spread misinformation on the vaccines and for the elections. We don’t need this being openly discussed without moderation.

The meltdowns with the weirdos talking about how this threatens our democracy is the funniest part about all of this.

Your lies don’t like to be challenged. You should be concerned.
