Husband complaining about my food

You could take the advice of some people here. That seems right from an individual point of you. But does nothing for you both as a couple. Change it up.

Yes, change it up by expecting more from your husband.

Your husband should learn to cook or STFU. That said, there's nothing wrong with increasing variety in your rotation. Some of meal plans aren't bad. Fresh Direct for example, for 2 nights a week to introduce variety. America's Home Kitchen Cook's Illustrated have easy to follow instructions for very tasty dishes. Youtube and the Food channel are other options. There's probably never been a better time in the history of mankind for those who want to experiment and explore with their home cuisine.

For some reason guys tend to gravitate towards grilling. It's grilling season and maybe he could get into that. Amazingribs.com has some really good tips for grilling.

Offer him a deal that each of you learns three new entree recipes. But don't change a thing until he's made one.

Is he doing the dishes? I told DH that if he wants more variety, he has to do all the dishes afterwards.

OP says he does all of the clean up.

Due to that, OP, I’m torn on telling you to tell him to shove it, or telling you to pick an hour, sit down and browse for new recipes that a) look good and b) are not too complicated.

OP here. He does do all the dishes, puts the food away, and cleans up the kitchen. I don’t mind cooking because he does everything else and cleans up every night while I put the baby to bed. I’m not that good of a cook but I will try looking for new recipes.

Do you have kids?

If not, then make single servings for yourself. When he says something, you say, "well, you don't like my food so I figure you can make your own."

Also, DO NOT HAVE CHILDREN WITH THIS MAN

I’m sorry, but the whole “he doesn’t cook” thing is ridiculous. You’ve had a kid with him. It’s a basic dad duty that he should be able to cook enough to (eventually) feed the kids when you are gone. One night a week, he should cook.

I find menu planning more stressful than cooking. So grab a pad of paper. Each week, he plans three nights (and cooks one), you plan three nights and you eat out/ eat leftovers the other night. .

We have a couple of selections that we rotate throughout the week for breakfast, lunch, and snacks. There is more variety with dinner but we still have some we rotate through depending on the week. I’m not the greatest cook but my husband can’t cook. My husband has been complaining lately that he is bored with the food choices but offers no suggestions. I have offered for him to look things up or come to the store with me but nothing. He complains he is tired of the same stuff and that he never gets cooked lunches. I’m getting so annoyed with him.

There are ready to eat meals at almost every grocery store. There are prepared ready to heat and eat meals all over the internet. You are not his babysitter no matter how much he cleans. All he needs is the INTERNET. He can get what he likes and they are not that expensive.

That's why I hated cooking. Everyone wanted something different and it's a thankless chore. If only dessert were okay for a meal ...LOL.

The day my husband was forced into retirement was the day I no longer cooked. And he does all the housework plus pet duty. Do I feel guilty ? I did but not anymore. Thinking about food 3 times a day is not fun. Him cooking is.

Time for a sit down and compromise. I promise if you don't work this out now it won't go away. It will get worse. Men are rude. They have no filter and act like you need to care for them. NOT TRUE.

Oh and that can't cook means WON'T cook. Some men act like we women were born with the gourmet gene. Throw him a can opener and a can of Dinty Moore. Crockpots are great for men.

So.
I found that I can improve my cooking game by getting a nice big high quality pan and also by just following the recipe. Truly. This won't solve a spoiled husband problem but will help you grow as a cook, and might solve the complaining somewhat.

For breakfast, try crepes and pancakes to the mix. They are annoying at first but a "basic crepe" recipe with sugar comes out tasting fine even if not perfectly thin and fluffy like at a french bakery. Also buy croissants.

I think I wouldn't budge on lunch, but consider adding avocado to your menu, and doing avocado toasts.

For dinner: asian and Spanish flavors! Look up "copycat chipotle" recipes, dress it up that way; "basic stir fry". Buy Indian sauce and put it over your food.Go out on a limb and buy these sauces and spices and it actually COMES OUT TASTING LIKE AT A RESTAURANT. Also Eastern European dishes (beet salads, stews, etc.)

Also: Browning meat and pre-frying onion had been a game changer for me.
Also instant pot rice, once I got the hang of it.

Anyway, good luck.

Unless he has a physically demanding job, I would quit with the making breakfast and lunch nonsense. Let him figure it out. You’ll make dinner with more creativity and enthusiasm because it’s one meal a day.

In this digital age there is no excuse for not knowing how to cook anything. He can watch a YouTube video, a TikTok, or take an in=person class.

He can make a sandwich or order take out. I would stop cooking altogether. I am happy to have popcorn every night. Feed the kids, and that's it.
