At what HHI did you love to McLean?

HHI $350K

Bought house in Mclean in 2018 for 3.4 mil
HHI 2.5mil

Liked Vienna more as a family town. More food options, bike trail, parades, etc. Hated commute to DC!
Mclean is where our kids go to school and most friends were, also much easier to get into DC, so much less traffic (prior to Covid and now).
Less idea for young family in Mclean. But happy with our choice.

If yo I don’t have to work on DC, and have younger kids, Vienna is less expensive and more family friendly.

Dang. What did you all do in those 7 years?!??

HHI about 250k (it varies a bit--I'm an independent contractor). Bought our house when DH was 54 and I was 42. House was 707k, and this was over 10 years ago. It's at about 1.2M now.

We moved here because DH is from FFX, and has spent his entire life in NoVA, and McLean is convenient for us. So, DH is comfortable here. I don't love it. But here we are.

foolish decision. We bought at less than a million for the public schools. Loved our time there. Neighbors (great diversity!) were great. Sold for $2.5M and made $1.6 in the transaction. Can't do that in Vienna

How much did your house cost?

Bought in 2022. Hhi 400k. House cost 2M. 35 years old. Best combination of safe neighborhood and close to dc.

Why do you have to move to McLean, OP? Is it a goal of yours? Do you have other options?

That seems to be the prevailing sentiment.

Mclean is not closed off and unfriendly. Mcleaners mind their own business. That's a plus. Schools are great and the streets are safe.

I love to McLean, at any price.

What is your interest rate? How do you possibly make mortgage payments on $2m house with 400k hhi? Do you have help? Other income? Asking becuase I'm close HHI wise, but find the morgage payments (approx $6k for $900,000/$1m house with 24% or so down) a crazy stretch!

HHI $2.5M?? Why didn't you continue to live like a "poor person" making $350K for another 5 years, bank an insane amount of money and then retire? Always with the lifestyle inflation!

Mind your business. Dear Lord. You probably don’t even make close to that.
98.99% of Americans don't. PP doesn't, and you don't either.

It's called McLame for a reason.

HHI at 500K didn't buy in Mclean in 2021. Instead we chose vienna, cheaper with bigger lot and family friendly environment.

However, we consider moving to Mclean again when kids need to go to middle school. We are aiming to make 650K to justify living in Mclean.
