Private organizations are allowed to pay to hold events/camps/etc. at schools.

Surrounded by million dollar plus homes. See above for poor rating. She doesn’t need to run.

There are several churches that provide support to kids needing extra help at CPES (and at least one other school in Vienma) - Christ Church Vienna, First Baptist, Vienna Pres, Vienna Baptist, and Belong (a community faith based organization). That’s what a community DOES, they support the school(s) and kids in their community. Nothing untoward is happening and no one is trying to convert your kid to fill in the blank religion. It’s a very diverse school and has children of many faiths. About 3 years ago, 29 different language were spoken by children attending CPES and I promise you, not all of them are Christian kids. The PTA is not full of random Vienna church going community members, no one on the board isn’t a parent at the school, it’s just a regular school in a great neighborhood that’s a little more economically and racially diverse than the rest of Vienna. I think everyone, regardless of background, appreciates the support the community gives the school and its students.

After reading this thread, I tried to craft wording similar to this but couldn’t. You did a much better job. This response encapsulates the community, not only at CPES, but the surrounding area.

I'm the person who asked, thank you for this explanation, that makes a lot of sense. We are specifically looking at diverse schools that feed to good high schools so CPES has, on paper, looked like a great choice for our mixed race family.

It drags down the value of the homes but if your kid is in the elementary or high school you should be ok as you've avoid this low rated elementary. However the neighborhood is worth less as the clientele of the elementary school live there

I really don’t like the wording or intent of your message. However, I personally know families who sent their children to parochial and private schools instead of Cunningham Park ES. I’m sure others share your thinking.

We left after feeling like there was a class and race -based divide between the white and non-white families. My son was placed in ESL based on his appearance and name even though we only speak English in our house. We moved to a new ES and were much happier but this was around a decade ago, so maybe things have changed.

I know the same about every other school in Vienna, as well.

Where were you in this process?

That’s not how kids are placed in ESL? At all.
