But, aren't there admitted student days set up by colleges so you can visit more fully now? I can see why this might be more difficult for a student deciding over a larger list of schools, but visiting two seems reasonable? These schools are pretty different, so being there in person with other students on campus seems like it would be really helpful.

Yes, but it's still nice to crowd source some frank anonymous info from the board before visiting!

Agreed - but you will definitely get more from the visit. Both schools will be wining and dining.....and I bet after attending both the decision will be far more clear cut.

I would pick Duke over Brown for premed. For me, I'd also prefer Duke's weather.

I went to Duke and loved it, amazing for pre-med. Durham is the City of Medicine, Duke University Medical Center is an amazing system, cutting edge science, etc. etc. etc.

But, doesn't Brown have the PLME program? Hard to imagine that it's not a great place to go for pre-med, even if you are not in the program.

If you are in the DMV, you may be more comfortable with the distance for Duke. I'd be.

She's gotta just reflect on her visits, watch a lot of youtube vlogs, even more online research, and then you all go with your gut! Amazing choices. Congratulations and best of luck.

Where she goes is much less important than her grades and her medical ECs.

Go to Brown and take advantage of the open curriculum to make a bunch of easy good grades because overall GPA is what matters in professional school applications, they don’t care what classes you take

OP here. No bragging, just don't know what to choose and ask for opinions. If you have child(ren), you will understand what it feels when you see kid frustrating and you don't know how to help. Without FA, it is a big investment - we hope that we could have an informed decision.

If she really has no opinion at all, Brown, for the guilty pleasure of her being able to say she went to an Ivy League school.

But Duke if she’d enjoy NCAA I sports and NCAA I parties.

THIS. Opposite vibes at these schools so it’s odd that she wouldn’t have a clear opinion.

Have you looked into it at all? You need the pre reqs, very high GPA, high MCAT, medical ECs, volunteer hours, clinical hours, and great recommendations. You don’t need a specific major.

I know these two universities well. There is no difference in med school placement. Med school admissions will depend on how well your child does in college and take advantage of available opportunities. Both colleges send quite a few of their students to top med schools.
I would ask your DC where she/he will feel happier and fit her/his personality better. Premed is not easy in both colleges even though Brown might be a little easier.

OMG Brown. Why is this a question? Brown all the way.

We had visited both schools earlier in our college tour, and DD liked them both. DD has no idea where to stay after graduation from college. We know that they are both good choices, but DD has hard time to make a decision. She's frustrated. Please provide some suggestions. Thank you very much in advance.

Congratulations to your daughter! She must be a great student! And both are great schools! I'd choose Brown because it's in the Northeast and is an Ivy and has a less Southern frat-boy reputation. I think both schools are excellent choices. Where does she want to be geographically? Does she mind the weather in Providence? Does she like Boston? It's an hour from Brown. Duke is in the research triangle, so there's lots of opportunities in that area and better weather. Does she have some idea of where she'd like to end up? Brown graduates go anywhere, so that's not a real consideration, but she'd be spending four years in the Northeast, so ought to like it. It can get gray in the winter, which can get you down. I feel like Brown has a slightly better reputation than Duke, but that's my NE prejudice, I'm sure.

I thought "pre reqs" were the classes you take.
