My kid goes to Magruder and said the kid with the gun was posting on snapchat with it stuck in his waistband and wanted to sell it. At least in this case someone told an adult.

Many of the students (and probably staff) and definitely parents were NOT HAPPY yesterday to find out about this. If folks think Magruder is back to normal after the school shooting, they are wrong.

Also, no mental health services in sight. These kids suffered trauma. And nobody cares. I find MCPS' claim to mental health support laughable.

Maybe the SROs can provide that now.

NP.. provide what? SROs aren't there to provide mental health support. They are not trained psychologists.

And they are no longer SROs. There are CEOs who are not necessarily permanently embeded in the schools.

MCPS/MoCo stated that in lieu of SROs, they would bring in more mental health professionals. Did they do that? I haven't heard about getting those services at our HS (not Magruder). I do hear about Suicide Prevention type presentations at the PTA meetings. Is that the kind of services that MoCo was talking about replacing SROs with? If so, how pathetic, especially given that only a tiny fraction of parents attend PTA meetings.

Weren't some parents pitching SROs as the new social worker?

SROs have and can connect with students, but they aren't licensed social workers.

But an SRO can assess whether a wound is from a gunshot better than lay people can.

What do you think a licensed social worker can do? Oh, sweetie, don't bring a gun to school, lets talk about your feelings?

Right, good luck with that. These kids need to be charged, given consequences as should their parents.

What is going on with the W schools? The MS13 Silver Spring/Wheaton schools have been much safer this year.

My point is that MCPS was supposed to bring in mental health professionals when they got rid of SROs .

They've onboarded 4 of the 50 they were supposed to bring in when they got rid of SRO.

No one wants that job and even if they bring in 50, that's not enough.

But, these are incidents of violence not mental health. So, we need mental health and SRO's.

If your kids fail to address a student with their “preferred pronouns” they will probably get expelled at MCPS!

Truth!

Not sure about that but it is inconsiderate to disrespect others.

Anyone know details about the WJ incident? Apparently there was police activity across at Wildwood plaza that day, but I'm not sure it was related to the BB gun or not.
