Teachers or people who work in schools - when do you workout?

Anonymous
I work in a 4-stroy school and I walk the stairs as many times as possible during my lunch/ planning period. I lift weights at home. Easy peasy to stay in shape. It's good preparation for the family hikes we do 2 weekends a month.

I go running after work a few days a week. My kids are in daycare then so I just pick them up a little bit later. I get off at 330 so I'm still able to get them around 430/440. I get up at 530 already and don't really want to get up much earlier than that!

OP: When do you find the time to work out, Amanda?

Amanda: I can do a workout before school.

I didn't notice that my phone switched the spelling until after I hit the "Submit" button. Perhaps others also fell victim to autocorrect.

We aren't publishing an academic paper; we are on DCUM. Therefore, revising and proofreading prior to submitting responses is not a priority.

It’s improper to begin a sentence with “therefore.” Now get yourself to the gym for your work out!

Therefore is a conjunctive adverb that absolutely may be used to begin a sentence. It may also be used after a semicolon.

I work out at 5:30 pm. And spelling corrector- I'm a physics teacher not a spelling teacher. I'd love for you to take one of my IB physics exams. Thanks!

Go to a gym? I could have worked out by the time I drive somewhere to work out.

Work out at home in the mornings. walk the stairs , yoga, light weights, walk the neighborhood (It's all hills!) -- so so many ways to keep fit without going to a gym. No time for that. I'm a teacher and a mom, after all. Every minute of the day is demanded. Also I might stay after school and take a jog around the neighborhood. It's a great way to wind down before afternoon errands, kids, dinner, etc.

So many different ways to work it all in. I don't sit down during the work day. Maybe that is the key. I don't think I could tolerate a sitting-down career.

Ok, 6 am and worked out; need to start getting ready to go. Leave at 6:30, arrive at school at 7am. My student assisntants will be waiting for me so they can help around the classroom and earn their SSL hours.

Gosh I’ve never heard anyone else so sanctimonious about not “going to the gym.” Good for you I guess?

I don’t. I get plenty of steps and activity during the workday. I usually take a walk or two on the weekend.

I too have never joined a gym. I work out at school either first thing (6am) or after school (3:30pm). I think the previous poster was jealous of all the money we are saving. Several teachers and staff in my school do this.

Also lunchtime is a good time to do a fast-walk around the track.

Oh please, nobody’s jealous. Some of us like working out at the gym. I like using the treadmill and the stair machine and the weights. I don’t have the room to work out at home much less the equipment I like. Original anti-gym PP was needlessly antagonistic.

I’m the pp who pointed out how sanctimonious the pp was. I assure you I am not jealous…I also do not go to the gym because working out at home works better for me. I just think it’s weird to be so self congratulatory for not going to the gym. Working out at home works for me but I know plenty of people who prefer the gym for various reasons and there is really nothing wrong with that.

Oh and may I also post out…perhaps the anti gym posters are the jealous ones? I know how much teachers make and it’s not much. Maybe you can’t afford the gym so you have to put down people who go to the gym to make yourself feel better?
