ditto this. I live in a part of SS and so occassionally also am in stores where this is the case and yes, it's frustrating. And yes, I have voiced support for English as our national language to my elected officials. It's obviously going absolutely nowhere if it hinges on anyone from MD doing something about that though with all the Latin votes at stake in the state.

What you need to do is get a designation that anyone who does not speak a language that is frequently used in your area (i.e. Spanish in Silver Spring), and is otehrwise unable to make his needs known, is "culturally handicapped" and required special accomodations in the business place.

All places of business shoud have at least one person available to can handle persons with your special needs!

15:54 here, I was referring to kids entering school K-5 but by your logic we can stop pouring tax dollars into ESL since they should've learned English through video games and MTV? Oh boy.

Clearly we need to pump dollars into special ed, because you need help.

Not all immigrant children were born here. Some of them come over as young children or teens. They are the ones that need language help to get through school. And yes, kids learn languages from every source imaginable. Even high school language classes use foreign language television/film as a teaching tool.

What I DO have a problem with is the people who come here illegally, have children, decide NOT to teach their children English and then expect our public schools and taxpayers to foot the bill for ESL classes and teachers. Sorry, it just doesn't seem right to me.

Translation - I don't have no problem with them different lookin' peoples, as long as they stay in their designated areas. They sound funny, and don't have no good grammar.
