What is wrong with MOCO politicans?

In the modern lingo we can call it “performative governance”.

I honestly believe that the county would be better off if we had a moratorium on passing any new laws, plans or anything else except a continuation of the same budget (making sure it’s balanced) for a couple years.

They are about to get huge tax breaks to build more dense housing, and yet our infrastructure (roads for cars and pedestrians, schools, public safety and more) is a disaster.

Rice changes his mind constantly, whoever has his ear last is the direction he goes. Reimer tells whoever he is talking to whatever they want to hear (true slimy politician, who changes directions with the wind), Friendson is bound by what his developer friends want (actually, developers fund most of their council members re-elections), Katz is actually a decent guy - consistent in his values, Jawando is too self-interested, Albornoz knows what he knows about but hasn't delved into what he doesn't and isn't interested, Glass is a decent guy but not great, Hucker is a mouth piece for Jill O-F, and Navarro's time is just about up with is a good thing.

This liberal lefty says it is time to clean house.

We tried to clean house with term limits and somehow did worse than the last group. Couldn’t stand Berliner or Floreen, but they were better than their replacements. Getting rid of Leventhal in the other hand was a plus no matter who replaced him.

They pass useless bills that harm small businesses, they bow down to the teachers' union no matter what, they think racial equity means listening to White people and doing what they want in most cases but calling them "privileged" anytime they want to flex their progressive cred or go on a power trip. They have no idea how to gather real input from communities of color. They don't know how to use common sense, unlike most communities that recognized that the CDC's recommendation to require toddlers and preschoolers to mask was dumb and likely harmful to their development.

+1. And I did leave for all of those reasons. Just couldn’t take the stupidity combined with hubris any more, particularly at MCPS (curriculum 2.0)

Lots NIMBYism when it comes to development

Lots of families over extended on expensive housing looking to get a decent school for their kids. Bitterly opposing any change.

The hypocrisy of wealthy liberals who support progressive causes but won’t give up any of their privileges.

Net jobs losses

Politics over constructive problem solving

Kids come last in any conversation - schools, masking etc

Suppression of real political debate

No actual progress on equity issues

Money down the drain on purple line- costs spiral due to selfish Chevy Chase residents

Eventually all the old rich white folks will die off or move to Florida- until then it’s gonna suck.

This is very true. How many UMC people zoned for W schools who in public appear to care about equity, antiracist curriculum, etc. would support a major change in school boundaries that brought many more black and brown kids into their schools and brought their house value down or slowed its appreciation? Very few. It's called defacto segregation.

But the rick folks won't move out. I see the county just becoming more and more segregated--about 2/3 of the schools becoming predominantly poor/FARM and minority, and the other 1/3 or maybe fewer being insulated white/Asian UMC. The true middle class will have moved to other counties because they stomach the schools that they get for the house price that they can afford.

Why wait until those old rich white folks die off? Just move. Your problem solved. Or, maybe, you like the County because of its amenities, schools, or whatever. But I suggest the people who lived in the County had something to do with why you find the County so attractive? If so, why would you want to drive them out with your screwed up attitudes.

Renaming the street was a good move, but Casey Anderson's draft general plan is still racist.

Sure, but it’s a complete distraction when poverty and crime are rising, the school system is imploding and streets and sidewalks are not being maintained. They should prioritize focusing on these core competencies of municipal government before even thinking about a photo op to rename a street.

This is a really funny post. It’s a collection of grievances (based on wild assumptions) that are very specific to the OP that I don’t think you could find another person in the county who shares them.

For example, there are a lot of other people who would also complain about the lack of job creation but they would never bizarrely claim that it’s somehow related to not building fourplexes in your neighborhood.

So you dont think that UMC people and politicians keep their neighborhoods and schools segregated to preserve property values and keep their kids in schools with like peers? Not sure what you think is screwed up about my attitude. Maybe you are a W parent who feel you worked harder than others and are bothered by these truths.

You might want to get a life. No one is stopping you from buying a place wherever you want. I of course understand that resources are a limiting factor. But, when I lived in NYC, I couldn't afford a place on Central Park West either. So far, I have survived that calamity. You clearly are overly focused on certain specific areas, where, I gather, the "rich" live. Why are you so obsessed about the rich? We can change the areas that you apparently desire, even though those residents do not want it changed. Or we can create more and more desirable areas, with infrastructure improvements, etc. I suggest the latter is the better approach.

Terrible.

You can build all you want. No one will come if there are no jobs. MoCo has been losing to NoVa for the last 30 years. The only jobs MoCo can grow are more govt jobs or jobs that suck from the teat of the govt. MoCo is becoming so bloated wrt to govt and job dependencies on govt that the county will eventually become insolvent as the tax base flees due to the never ending tax hikes that will be needed to feed the beast. Congrats, you will be stuck with your insolvent progressive utopia with trendy, highly dense urban centers that are nothing more than minature ghost cities all while school quality goes to shite.

Why would you go there? It is a never ending string of shootings, assaults, and mayhem.

What is appealing about this?

Classic. When was this?

DP. We bought a house here (silver spring) because the alternatives were either too expensive or two far of a commute for one or both of us (unfortunately we don’t work in the same part of the metro area). But now I’m not commuting so much, so we think about it. But now that we have two kids, the thought of picking up and moving, especially with this market, can be overwhelming.

I certainly don’t hate everything about this county, it’s just lately that the negatives have become more pronounced for me.

+1. And the most annoying thing is where there once was a productive business it is now filled by another MCPS administrative building. Madero for county executive!
