There is something really wrong with politics in MOCO. After living here for 10 years I think it’s a mixture of: Aging demographic preoccupied with naval gazing and focused on needs of older residents Democratic majority that isn’t responsive to electorate as they don’t really fear being voted out from the center or right Lots NIMBYism when it comes to development Lots of families over extended on expensive housing looking to get a decent school for their kids. Bitterly opposing any change. The hypocrisy of wealthy liberals who support progressive causes but won’t give up any of their privileges. As a result: Net jobs losses Politics over constructive problem solving Kids come last in any conversation - schools, masking etc Suppression of real political debate No actual progress on equity issues Money down the drain on purple line- costs spiral due to selfish Chevy Chase residents Eventually all the old rich white folks will die off or move to Florida- until then it’s gonna suck.
This is very true. How many UMC people zoned for W schools who in public appear to care about equity, antiracist curriculum, etc. would support a major change in school boundaries that brought many more black and brown kids into their schools and brought their house value down or slowed its appreciation? Very few. It's called defacto segregation. But the rick folks won't move out. I see the county just becoming more and more segregated--about 2/3 of the schools becoming predominantly poor/FARM and minority, and the other 1/3 or maybe fewer being insulated white/Asian UMC. The true middle class will have moved to other counties because they stomach the schools that they get for the house price that they can afford.
Why wait until those old rich white folks die off? Just move. Your problem solved. Or, maybe, you like the County because of its amenities, schools, or whatever. But I suggest the people who lived in the County had something to do with why you find the County so attractive? If so, why would you want to drive them out with your screwed up attitudes.
So you dont think that UMC people and politicians keep their neighborhoods and schools segregated to preserve property values and keep their kids in schools with like peers? Not sure what you think is screwed up about my attitude. Maybe you are a W parent who feel you worked harder than others and are bothered by these truths.
