Barry could have been great. He was a civil rights proponent when he started out. Then he became comically troubled and allowed all sorts of ineptitude to permeate the dc government with crony appointees. He smoked crack. He banged whores. Then he found Jesus and got re-elected.

Anyway, we all have no idea what we’re talking about obviously. Even if we grew up here and were around when the city fell into receivership. The 80’s and 90’s were definitely a crazy time here what with all the shootings and drugs, but obviously we don’t know what we’re talking about and only you with your cryptic one sentence answer could ever know the perfect history of this city.

You guys don't seem to be disagreeing that Barry was bad for DC.

Plenty of cities all over America where Marion Barry was not the mayor had issues with shootings and drugs during this time period.

I was about to say "just about all major cities" had those problems in that era but I'll accept your version.

Just because other cities had problems, it does not follow that Barry was a wise or even honest servant of the people. It is unspeakably foolish for anyone to honor him now that we are supposed to have awakened from DC's nightmare that cost it the whole second half of the 20th century.
