We probably spend about $40k.
We travel a lot. 3 big trips per year. (Week long) Usually in addition to that a week at the beach in a rental house and several other long weekends. 2 kids It’s a high priority for us though. We like to travel. |
| 200k family income, one child. We prioritize traveling over things. We do try to find good deals with travel. We probably spend 5-7k with 1-2 big trips and few weekend trips. |

We don't budget any more.
But we can spend anywhere from $2K to $5K to $10K. We watch money even when we travel. A $2K year is a week at the beach and weekend visits to family. A $5K year is a domestic airline trip to national parks. A $10K year is one like the one we're having this year after COVID kept us from traveling for two years: a week in Maine with a stopover in NYC, a week in Canada, a trip to France. The trips to Maine and Canada involve shared rental homes with family. Total for those is around $1500. For the Paris trip, we found inexpensive flights, so the flights were $2300 for 4. Air BNB for $1900. Most meals will be in the air bnb, so food should be another $1000. Activities maybe another $1000 if we splash out. So, $6500 for a week in Paris for a family of four. I've been a budget traveller from way back. I travel when I want to, but I always watch the budget. The limitation is time to travel, not money. For most things in life, if you watch the budget, you can keep prices reasonable. When I was a middle schooler, I visited a woman with dementia and her main regret in life was not traveling with her husband when she was younger. I'm trying not to make that mistake. |

It depends on the year and how well we're doing. Our income fluctuates depending on commissions and bonuses, which is how we pay for most of our travel.
On average, I'd say $25K per year. We take a Disney trip almost annually, a beach trip, and an international trip. If we can find other long-weekend trips we'll take those too, but it depends on our budget. Traveling (and raising travelers) is priority for us so I'd like to get closer to $35/40K. My bucket list is long and the years are short. |
