Our son was born the day a comet appeared in the sky. For real. One of those that only shows up every hundred years. I wanted to make the name of the comet his middle name.
Daughters due date was bastille day so we thought about that for her middle name but she came early.

These are strange ideas for cool.

It feels a lot less common for girls, I think people feel a lot of pressure to pick a "pretty" middle name instead of something with a bit more character (also an issue with first names for girls, IMO). Most girls I know have middle names like Jane, Rose, Lydia, Alic, etc. It's also a very common way to honor a mother or grandmother, but since grandma names are very in vogue right now, those middle names just don't sound very unique at this point.

But one trend I like is people using nature names as middle names for girls. River, Summer, Clover, Hyacinth, Winter, etc. I think these feel like a little much for a first name for a lot of parents, but they are all so pretty and just a much more original middle name choice than the stand-bys.

My friend gave her son two middle names: Homer Eugene, after some relatives. Always cracks me up a bit.

you have terrible taste and have zero idea on what is cool. Goose? Surf? Shell? Chessy? And the fact that you said Lincoln after Abraham makes me cringe so much. Lincoln hated the nn Abe. Same with Washington! How stupid do you think we are?

^Pretty stupid. Why are you so angry?

When our younger DD was born there were crickets chirping outside. Our 4 year old said “I love the crippets!” And we seriously considered crippets as the baby’s middle name.
