Chappelle the NIMBY

As a public figure, his opinion of something definitely will draw attention on a specific issue & I think he dropped the ball on this one.

I personally think public/affordable housing is an important step toward solving the homeless issue.
I have never understood the “not in my backyard”-type of people.

I feel that every citizen has a right to shelter > that shelter is not just for the privileged.
I am sure Dave has friends in the industry who grew up in low-income housing.
Jay Z for example. Or Fat Joe.

😕

I’m sure you’d love it if a homeless shelter was built next door to your home. It’s all theoretical until it confronts somebody on a personal level.

I guess you’re not a fan of Google either. The initial news reports are lies. NBC has already changed its headline. The plan did NOT call for affordable housing. Not even close. Read the article from The Grio in this thread. Goodness.

I was withhding judgement on this because it seemed like there was something more to the story. And, as it turns out, there is. This looks more like a smear campaign against Chappelle by the developer. The affordable housing is just a small chunk they've acquiesced to the town to justify the build out of more expensive suburban sprawl.

He just doesn't give a F.

PP here. I meant that he doesn't care what people think of him and says/does what he thinks and believes to be right. He actually seems very reasonable and level headed in interviews.

Team Chapelle. Not every corner is in need of those box apartments that don't require an architect.

These NIMBY arguments are generational. Boomers and Gen-Xers remember a time when there was some actual green space and a little fresh air. Millennials get upset if you don't participate in turning literally every last patch of grass into a toilet.
