Yeah. I am on here always posting against Virtual School, but maybe identify which schools are being threatened and pivot to Virtual for the day.

Our children deserve better than this. I don't know how to keep my child safe and educated, too.

Agreed.

Also tough for the kids at Magruder HS.

Terrific, now WTOP is reporting it. So much for their request not to share the threats.

Dear MCPS Families,

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) and Montgomery County Police (MCPD) have been made aware of a number of online threats being made toward schools in Montgomery County. These social media threats are similar in style and content and mention a school shooting intended for Friday, Feb. 4 and include racial and hateful comments.

The Montgomery County Police have investigated and determined the validity of these threats to be low-level. MCPS and MCPD will continue to monitor social media and will actively investigate any specific threat in our community. The community is encouraged not to share these messages online but to report any such threats to local law enforcement. Montgomery County Police have committed to having officers ensure that schools are part of regular patrols on Friday.

If you or your child becomes aware of a student who has a weapon or is planning to hurt themselves or others, please immediately contact the local police and the school administration. Anonymous tips can also be reported to the Maryland SafeSchools Tipline at 833-MD-B-SAFE (available 24/7).

Why do you think they were intentional?

Because you can't give in to terrorists. This is what it is... terrorism. I think it would have been better had MCPS not sent out the email they did. Now everyone is freaking out.

How is this MCPS’s fault? Do you not read news from all over the US?

Let's be honest with ourselves. This is a threat against wheaton. If the entire county wasn't under one reign of error this wouldn't be my problem tonight.

Also, the fact that they didn't bring back SRO'S but had a bulletin survey about snow days is pretty much their fault. Yes.

Can’t blame the lack of SROs on MCPS. The blame for removing SROs falls directly on the County Council.

I read the request more as not retweeting etc the threats, not a request not to share info that a threat was made (which would be the opposite of MCPS sending an email and tweet about it…)

It's news and it should be shared.
It should also be followed up with " fbi agents tracked the ip address and the person who made the threats is now in custody "

Not really. If they have this info, and something does happen… MCPS would be in a terrible position for not informing parents.

The county council should have zero influence over school personnel. This was a massive over reach and abuse of power.

So much sadness and anger everywhere, especially from those who would make such threats. We are all just trying to get by right now. May we all find peace and happiness.

And their staff, which they still haven’t communicated this info to.
Thanks, MCPS!

Instead of targeting concerned parents, the FBI needs to target REAL terrorists. What’s wrong with them????

No tracking needed- posted under the kids name on instagram. Wheaton students seem to know who he is.

In 4 out of 5 school shootings, at least one other person had knowledge of the attacker’s plan but failed to report it.
