Sounds like she tried calling the doc and hasn't gotten a response. And, actually, throughout the history of womenhood, 'crowd sourcing the mommies' has been an effective way for women to communicate and gather information when problems arise.

Stop reviving old threads.

I take ferrous gluconate, 27mg (Fergon), and haven't experienced noticeable side effects.

Reviving this thread because I am looking for suggested brands/types for my 16 year old (vegetarian) DD. Vitron C has 65mg - seems like a lot/too much?

my DD has low iron and takes a chewable Nature Made. Plus a multivitamin with iron.

Following this thread to see what else people are taking. Her iron is still low with this combination.

PP here. How many mg did your dr recommend?

Definitely not too much. It takes a lot if iron to correct a deficiency. 65mg is a standard size for an iron pill.

A hematologist will tell you to take two of those per day (but I’m not one!), so one of those is no big deal.

Pumpkin seeds.

I love Hemaplex. I tolerate it well and it raised my iron level to where it needs to be in a couple of months. My endocrinologist actually prefers it to some of the prescription iron supplements.

This is what my DD took to bring up iron levels.

We started with what the doctor recommended which was called Slow Fe but it had way too many side effects and my DD will no longer take it. I have reached out to the doctor a couple of times for alternatives but have received no reply. Any suggestions for supplements that are easier on the stomach?

Proferrin--order it on line or have pharmacist order it at drug store. It is OTC. This is heme iron. It will not have the
stomach side effects of the metal irons or liquid metal irons.

The heme iron is very effective in raising scores.

Also cook with cast iron.

Black strap molasses.

O/T but those teens with low iron. Was it diagnosed why their iron was low?

MybDD had severely heavy periods. And they wouldn’t stop on their own. Now on bc and skipping inactive pills. Her iron is still low even w the supplements and not getting her period.

All the tests came back normal except her iron levels. Wondering if they missed something.

Nature Made Iron Gummy

I was thinking of getting these and only doing one gummy a day at 50%. Anyone else do this?
