These stats are considerably lower that other PPs who were deferred. Why do you think that is? Is it need? I have a Junior and we also need aid!

My child got in. 4.7 weighted gpa. 1530, 4 year varsity athlete, captain for two years, other very strong leadership type e.c.s. Very little financial aid/merit With the offer, so it’s likely off the table for us. At least 40 people from their high school also applied, and have heard similar from other area schools. I just think the number of applications this year was insane and it really does just become a numbers game at some point. It’s absolutely absurd how competitive these schools have gotten.I hope your child gets in.

Yes but they are only being admitted into the year abroad program. The school won't have to include these stats in their reporting.

IIRC the application asks if you would consider it if offered.

So the kid got accepted to the N.U.in Program where you spend the first semester not in the main campus in Boston.
PP said 'first year' but I believe it is the first semester.
The stats are usually lower for that program.

If Northeastern is one of the top choices, I think it's still a great deal.

What I am wondering is their algorithm for selecting deferral vs N.U.In accept

Yes, wondering the same thing.

Kid accepted to NU bound w/Dean’s level scholarship of $14k/year; $56k total (first year abroad, location and tuition TBD).
3.95 UW/ 4.64 W, 1480 SAT, decent but not extraordinary ECs. We toured the campus last year.

1420 is still pretty high score even for Northeastern's standard.
It's current middle 50 is 1410 - 1540, so it's within the middle 50

Brown and Dartmouth middle 50 is 1440 - 1560

By the way is it a fact that those stats not included in the reporting?
I heard about it but couldn't really verify that.
Do you have a source?

3.95 UW and 1480 SAT still not a direct accept?
This is insane.

BTW again I believe it's a semester abroad instead of a year.

Denied.

Congrats to those accepted, and to those deferred or declined - it is not a reflection of the student or the stats. Colleges have goals and limits - by geography, gender, race, full vs partial pay, and many more. Maybe they have already reached the limit for that round from FCPS, then your student's grades may not matter. Or maybe they need more full pays or more of whatever. Then they look at that 4.5wgpa and say to themselves that the student will have options elsewhere.

Northeastern also had a much higher yield last year than prior years, leading to a major over-enrollment of this year's freshman class...I'm guessing they are: 1) making this year's freshman class smaller (to some extent) to alleviate overcrowding; and 2) REALLY doing their best to manage yield by heavily using deferral in the EA round and waitlists in the RD round.
