Except for 90% of the county feels differently and keeps re-electing them but I guess there's alt-right cadre on DCUM that feels differently.

I know I'm voting straight Apple ballot because I've had it with the complainers here.

It’s interesting that you would imagine that people dissatisfied with the performance of this Board due to the chaos that is this school system are “alt-right”.

I’m so far left that I donated to Bernie Sanders and yet, what I cannot countenance is mediocrity, particularly when it comes to public goods. People need to be accountable when they don’t perform at their jobs. If you believe that this is the best that the public sector can provide in terms of services, it makes a lot easier for the right wing to undermine public confidence that the government is capable of serving them well.

We know well from history what happens next when we reach that point. If you cared at all about this school system, these kids and this county, you should demand that this Board takes strong action in order to bring things back from the brink.

If we continue down the path we are heading down, there is nothing but trouble ahead.

Can someone explain why the BOE hasn’t issued a statement?

Do they plan to do anything to address this shooting and violence in schools?

McKnight sent a letter the day of the incident. Not sure what else you are looking for.

McKnight is not the BOE. I want to hear from our elected representatives at the BOE about what they plan to do.

The longer they stay silent the longer the community will need to conclude that they don’t feel that a kid fighting for his life in an ICU from a gunshot wound inflicted in an MCPS school building doesn’t deserves their attention. That it’s just business as usual.

I will note that since the shooting, the BOE has found the time to promote vaccination clinics and job fairs in Spanish. And yet, a shooting inside a school eludes their attention.

This is why they need to go.

I mostly like to find things to complain about.

Thanks for clarifying. You have just confirmed that they don’t care about a school shooting or student safety in MCPS. Evidently the BOE sees it as “not their job”.

McKnight is not the BOE and does not speak on behalf of the BOE.

You seem to have not taken the council mandated MCPS local civics curriculum. You might want to go brush up.

What is it exactly that you want the BOE to do? Guns are a societal problem and fortunately gun violence has been very rare in MCPS. It is unclear an SRO would have prevented this incident. Do you want metal detectors in every school? Imagine the thread that would start. This is just an opportunity for angry parents (I suspect the VL crowd) to gang up on McKnight and the BOE.

The St. Mary’s County Board of Education is currently being sued by the family of the poor girl that was murdered at school. The family’s complaint faults the BOE for “fail[ing] to take meaningful action to protect Jaelynn and prevent her murder.”

The Montgomery County BOE seems to be destined to the same fate and their continued silence on this matter is likely an indication of their civil liability.

Pretty bad. We need better leaders.

What do I want them to do? Perhaps start by recognizing the tragedy that had occurred on their watch and vowing to investigate and take action with input fr
the community to help prevent future tragedies. Is that too much to ask?

You realize also that by blaming society it undermines your talking point that this type of violence is rare. Don’t you?

Evidently we should send our kids to school and expect them to be murdered. Sorry, nothing anyone can do.
