| I liked Tennessee better for my DS, who isn't into that east coast/NY/NJ vibe - the people are so nice and the weather is great and it felt really communal. |
You can't say that. Another post has just forbid it!

Yes, but the point still stands! |
Is Rhode Island not in the US? And I don't even know what "it does hardly means it's diverse" even means. I didn't mention anything about diversity. |
Yea, I'm sorry, I meant the second smallest. I was thinking of the license plates ha ha. My only point is that pointing out that 60 percent of the student body is out of state is pretty meaningless there, unless you're just observing that they take in a lot of OOS dollars from students from PA and NJ. |
Hmmm, yes, as a former student I would not say Newark is a not so great area. One plus is you can Amtrak to NYC easily. |
What? I did not see this as a former residential student. I remember one girl would go home on the weekend but that was a huge exception. UD is not a commuter school. There are plenty of campus activities on the weekend. |
| Since no one has mentioned academics yet, if your son is considering chemistry or chemical engineering, Delaware has one of the top programs in the nation in these areas and deep connections with industry and jobs there. |
Four year grad of UD. Students do their socializing and activities on campus. Sometimes we'd go to Wilmington or NYC for events. |
NYC is over 2 hours away. Hardly a quick jump over. |
Amtrak. |
DMV parent with kid looking at schools with lots of NY/NJ kids. Do you mind explaining how their social culture is quite different than the DMV area? |
This is a great point. I think they also have some niche history program related to Delaware museums. |

TN has way way way way way more attractive women.
I’m surprised OPs son hasn’t already thought of this. Here is the thing, I also prefer northeast schools — BUT if you can’t get into a prestigious northeast school, then go to a state school in a different region! It’s not worth going to a non-prestigious school in the northeast. |
Actually I mentioned academics (considering programs and majors) back at 1530. Didn’t know what the kid was planning to study but that it should be considered. |
