I believe Wake Forest offered this option because all its optional interview slots for this admission cycle were taken, and they wanted to give every applicant the opportunity to have an off paper submission.
So, op, of your child has an interview, I would not have her submit the video. You seem to be missing the context. |
Not sure the rude assumption at the end of your post was necessary. How do you know the context and why do you need to try to shame the OP? |
Wake Forest is not very diverse and not very liberal. Read into that what you will. |
| Our DC like the idea of Wake Forest, but upon visiting and doing research online, what turned off by the lack of diversity. Fall 2020 data released by Wake shows their first year class was ~70% white. Not sure it's improved much since then.... |
| Wake Forest University's ranking in the 2022 edition of Best Colleges is National Universities, #28. |

This is what my daughter was told as well, and she submitted one. She got in ED! |
| Many years ago our DS submitted a video of himself doing an activity which fed directly into his career ambition. All he did was film himself on GoPro, upload to YouTube and put a link in the application. He got in almost everywhere he applied save two Ivies - but that was a long time ago in college admissions years. But it did tie the essay, application and intended major all together. He could also tell who watched it. |
Isn’t that sort of what the Ivy League school schools sued for discriminating against Asian students with “perfect” profiles said? That those perfect students didn’t have social skills? |
My DC was told interview OR the video - they don't want you to do both. |
Very clever. However, lots of kids get into "almost all where they applied, expect for two Ivies" without doing a video. I just pause and consider that we may be making our kids performance monkeys that have to figuratively dance themselves into a pretzel to get into college. Not every kid has the access or the resources or the support of engaged, encouraging caregivers, to do this.I fear it's getting harder and harder to make college accessible for all kids, regardless of their zip code. |
Because op is complaining about something that she didn’t bother to understand before complaining. |
I know the context because I looked at the college’s web site. |
| What nonsense. Hope my kid loses interest if they persist. |

I would be more alarmed by the question they asked — about current events. There’s probably clearly a “correct” way to answer.

And you are nasty. So there's that.... |
