How do you feel now that you're 50 and lifting 10 years?

DP. 50, 25 years, and EXCELLENT.

Op, you’re in a great place to start if you have that gym setup at home already!

I like Strong Lifts for a basic, minimalist program. It’s just squats, deadlifts and bench presses, so simple. Does your home gym have a mirror? You’ll want that to check form. Also, if you belong to a gym with BodyPump classes (AKA Les Mills) that’s a great place to start.

Like another poster, I started at 40. Seriously regret not having started sooner. It will boost your confidence and make you feel great in your own skin. Congrats and good luck!!

You can do BodyPump at home thru the LesMills app.

What exercises do I do when? I have pretty clear goals for why I want to start lifting (tone, increase strength, improve bone desnsity), but a personal trainer is not possible right now and am ovewhelmed by everything available on the interwebs. If you did not start with a trainer, how did you get started, and how long did it take you to feel comfortable with what you were doing? Thanks for any advice for a newbie!

Lifting heavy clicked for me when I realized that a few well chosen exercises were all I need. In which case, yes, a trainer can't hurt, but youtube could be enough too since there isn't much to learn. My own routine right now isn't all that different than this one: https://www.outsideonline.com/health/training-performance/absolute-minimalists-strength-workout/ You can substitute rows for the pull-up. I don't think it would take you too long to figure it out if you keep it simple.

Peloton’s unofficial group hardcore on the floor. It’s completely manageable for a newbie and will definitely build those muscules up ! Follow them on Facebook or Instagram
