| Tests shouid absolutely be eliminated in law school. They are useless and have nothing to do with actual lawyering. |
And, they should take notes about the student’s attire, manners, and overall social IQ. Extra points for witty - but not snide - remarks. The best schools should go for the socially savvy. |
| Schools like MIT could ask kids to solve absurdly difficult math problems. |
Looks like previous posters are getting creative! |
People prep for that, too! And psychologists sell the tests to desperate parents. There is no end to what some folks will do to get their precious offspring into the “right” college. |
This isn’t even worthy of discourse. https://news.uchicago.edu/story/test-scores-dont-stack-gpas-predicting-college-success |
GPA is the culmination of fours years of work. Arguably, more relevant than a 4 hour test. The problem is that grade inflation has limited the usefulness of GPA. |
NO the math and english ability tested is the culmination of 12-13 years of work. |
| This discussion is moot. As admissions become more and more loosey-goosey based on entirely "holistic factors", more and more employers will conduct their own tests for jobs requiring a minimum of academic competence, as is already done in a lot of technical interviews. |
| Why don’t universities make sports optional and not give any weight to athletics. I wish such a day will come one day and universities will focus on education. |
Kahn Academy is free. |
But there is so much grade inflation... |
FCPS AAP admission was a joke with my two. Child 1, offered a slot and was essentially asked to leave the program after one semester due to poor performance. Child 2 NOT offered a spot. HS GPA of 4.4, 1500+ SAT and NMSF. |
The “well rounded” bit means nothing to you, huh? Let me guess, you view college as technical trade school. |
+1 It's been interesting (to say the least) to see where kids who were never in AAP are now going to college. Cornell, UVA, UCLA, UChicago, Yale, Princeton, and more. |
