In the 90s, it had virtually no parties. It was the antithesis of a party school except for South Beach every week. UMD was much more of a classic party school. But, it's not the 90s, so I can't say. |
| Our recent UMiami grad, now at top B school, loved every minute of her UM experience. She says the students are super smart and very happy. And yes, lots of rich kids, the richest are international. She says she did not know of drug abuse and parties were what you’d expect from any similar school. Also, teachers continue to be extremely helpful in writing recs & making calls and anything career related. She’s sitting next to me now, I’d be happy to pass any questions to her. |

Resurrecting this thread... DD (rising senior) is very interested in Miami for engineering.
Anyone have recent experience? Also any insights into their apparent housing shortage? |
| DS was admitted and received pretty good merit at Miami. ended up deciding to go somewhere else but would have been happy at "The U" too. The campus visit was outstanding with tons of stellar students. The guide was a senior and going to UCLA Med School next year. Another was going to Michigan Law. The campus was beautiful and a short Uber/subway to downtown. I expect to be impressed but I was super impressed. Don't listen to the naysayer. They bash Greek schools, then bash club schools. If your kid is going to party, they are going to find a bad crowd anywhere. Miami is expensive, very, but the trade off is employment opportunities. There is a great music scene on campus. Also, great diversity and international make-up. Go visit! |
