University of Miami

Maybe that’s the kind of place that would do yield protection. So, don’t freak out if you hear about higher stats kids getting rejected.

Also: Consider Eckerd. I don’t know a lot about it, but my friend’s daughter got a great merit aid offer there, and the Gulf Coast area is prettier than Dade County.

“Nobody has heard of Eckerd,” but no one has heard of the University of Miami, either. Those kinds of schools tend to have rich, happy alumni who love their schools, so, they punch way above their weight for job opportunities for bright, energetic kids.

Almost everyone has heard of the University of Miami.

Isn't Eckerd the one with all the financial trouble?

The “U” is University of Minnesota to me. Univ of Miami is not well known outside of the south.

It’s rank around 50 is a product of Donna Shalala and later — so since 2000.

They play D1 sports and have the same name as a major US city. Much more name recognition than Eckerd.

I’m not the Eckerd poster. Maybe more than Eckerd but I wouldn’t go so far as to say “almost everyone has heard of them” either.

How much of a party school is UM? DS is interested but I’m afraid the whole Miami experience would be too much.
Anonymous
Our private (specializing in bright kids with LDs) used to feed to UM but the counselors do not recommend it anymore. Party school.
Anonymous
Very big party school. Rampant with drugs too but I suspect that all Big 10, ACC, SEC, schools are party schools. Miami is beautiful and the campus is close to everything.

Right.

Meanwhile, on the east coast, I might not even know where Minnesota is on a map.
