APS fall assessment - What the heck do the numbers mean?

Our teachers sent home the detailed findings which noted the individual areas, I would reach out.

I get VA mandated the growth assessments. And APS is sending us whatever stock language there is about these assessments. Teachers are not familiar with them, which is understandable. I've asked to talk to both the reading and math specialists at our school. Their responses sounded as if I was putting them out. After a year of virtual, and seeing what are confusing results, I don't think it is being a pushy parent to want to have a discussion about how to interpret them.

Can someone tell me how high the DIBELS scores go? My child’s score (5th grade) was higher than the benchmark, but not by much. I’d be curious to know the upper limit to get a sense for whether his score is an ‘almost failed,’ or a solid indication there’s no issue.

You’ll get something with more info showing a range of scores in the mail or through backpack mail. It’s the sort of thing where if you pass that’s enough.

My kid missed like almost all the questions in the assessment but the scaled score was pretty high for her grade level…what?

I only received the single page report in ParentVue, but the teacher discussed the DIBELS report at conferences and sent it home shortly after that. I have not seen anything regarding PALS or Math Inventory. Has anyone else?

For my second grader, we got a single sheet with PALS, DIBELs, and math inventory. No details. Also the math benchmark shown was for the end of the year, but reading benchmarks are for beginning Of year. I didn’t think math inventory was even given before 3rd grade.

For my middle schooler, we could see which questions he got right or wrong on growth assessments, but was there an actual score for that? I didn’t see one.

There’s a parent report you may receive that has color coding but for 5th, the composite benchmark for “on grade level” is 335, and the “above grade level” benchmark is 370.

Hope that helps.

They refactored some of the scores. I was able to see my child’s report when they first posted it, and he had a lower score on the first report than these new ones, at least for math.

Which assessment? I’m an APS teacher and have known my students scores since the day they took the tests and the scores have not changed a bit from what I have seen. Where did you see a change and is it possible it was a typo?

Are you sure they were his? My kids math growth assessment was actually someone else’s. I think it’s why they took the reports down.

This was the 8th grade growth assessment for math. The original one was 1500-something, and it didn’t seem to have as in depth of a question by question readout as the new one, which is now 1600-something and there seemed to be more questions displayed. I think the reading one stayed the same.

Yes, same here - when I checked the name on the second page, it was another student's.

Diebles is the "better" test so if child did better on that, great and don't worry about PALS...which is not that great of a measure.

What does this mean?
GR 3 MATHEMATICS FALL 2021
Vertical Scale Score 1335?

The verbal one is over 1500. Is this child below expectation, on expectation, or above?
