Thank you. He is 6 and in first. For PALS he refused to name any of his letters (or letter sounds) but he can read so I think something must have just been off with him that day. But Diebels puts him on track. |
Refusing to participate when you know he knows his letters doesn't give a meaningful score. Throw that one out. Use other metrics to see if he's on track. |
Does anyone have thoughs about comparing math inventory results with the growth assessment results? My 3rd grader lost points for things like not reading a thermometer correctly or telling time, when all of our summer practice focused on math facts and computation. I have no surprise that she was rusty at time and measurement, but am surprised the growth assessment seems to put oversized emphasis on math-adjacent skills over actual core computing skills. |
The growth assessment specifically covers the previous grade's SOL standards. The Math Inventory is nationally normed for how the average 3rd, 4th, and 5th grader do and the score benchmark is an end of year expectation. |
Does it cover the previous grade SOL? The note from our teacher said it covered the current grade SOL so our kids hadn't seen this material yet. (There is no SOL test at the end of 2nd.) I also don't think the math curriculum covered these topics last year, but they are being covered this year. |
Sorry- you are correct. The 3rd grade only covers 3rd grade standards. 4th and 5th covers previous years standards. |
My kid's math inventory score is very high relative to the benchmark, while the growth assessment falls within the needs support. Nothing else points to concerns so maybe just rushed through things or was having a bad day or whatever. Who knows. |
Did 3rd graders take the Math Inventory? I only have DIBELS and that growth assessment. |
PP here, 3rd grade. My kid has DIBELS and math inventory for BOY assessments, math and reading for growth assessments. |
For 2nd graders, did people receive a single page report with DIBELS, PALS and Math Inventory child scores/benchmark? Or did anyone receive more in depth reports for each through ParentVue?
I only received the single page report in ParentVue, but the teacher discussed the DIBELS report at conferences and sent it home shortly after that. I have not seen anything regarding PALS or Math Inventory. Has anyone else? |
DD got a bunch of answers wrong on the verbal and scored pretty well, so I wonder how this thing was scored. (She's a great reader and would actually know most of the categories she got dinged for but still got them marked wrong.)
|
We got a PALS score, but DIEBELS was blank |
We got a Dibels score without any context. Last year we got a whole sheet explaining where they scored on each element, this year it's just a number. Is there somewhere to look to see what it means? (Other than just, "needs intervention" or not.) |
First grader. Only received scores and benchmark numbers. No detail or explanation. No math assessment data anywhere either. |
Only 3rd and up did the official math assessments I think (because it is based on SOL which the younger kids don't take) |
